I used them as decorative mulch on the surface. Never had an issue with termites.

Thanks GoldenRod! I read online that using them on the surface is fine because they need air. When you bury them underground, I suppose, there are a different set of things to consider. Trying to research online but not a ton of info about it.

Are any of the trees diseased? That would have an affect on the process, too.

I don't think so but haven't been there long enough/done a thorough enough inspection to confirm/deny.
