WE went to Dreams LaRomana in August - everything was great except its really far from the airport

Fantastic resort and the food was great! It's not cheap compared to other places in the DR, but its worth spending the extra $$.

We went here a few years ago and would highly recommend it. Loved it there.

We stayed at the Hard Rock in DR. Resort was huge, but very clean and staff was really nice..and food was okay.

We stayed at Iberostar Bavaro in Punta Cana -- it was wonderful.
This time in June we are staying at the Melia Caribe Tropical (also Punta Cana) and friends just returned saying they loved it.

We went here a few years ago and would highly recommend it. Loved it there.
Same here! It was a bit far from the airport (45 minutes) but well worth it. We paid for a private taxi through Excellence and I think it was $45 each way. At the end of our trip that's the ONLY thing we had to pay- no taxes, no surprises, no gratuities. It was a pleasure settling that hotel bill.

I am also trying to find a nice kid friendly resort in Punta Cana.
I stumbled upon a oyster.com. I really like their reviews and pictures of the resort. I use tripadvisor, familivacationcritic.com and oyster to look at reviews.
I often use kayak.com for flights. Orbitz and cheapcarribean.com are also options. Bing.com/travel is good for flight predictors but don't work with international flights.http://www.oyster.com/search/?qa=location:dominican-republic-100

If anyone is interested in the Lifestyle Hacienda Resort in Puerto Plata, just let me know. We are vacation club owners there, so I can get the units at a very low price. www.lifestyleholidaysvc.com
Click on the side that says "vacation club". The resort is huge and has a ton of amenities.
For two people, you can have an all inclusive vacation in really nice suite for about $1000 for the week (not including air), I believe airfare is about $500 each these days.

We stayed there last February. DH's cousin owns a time share there and is considered VIP status.
Our experience there was ok. Once they find out we were not an owner there, we were hounded to sit in on one of their time share meetings. I didn't like their sales tactics at all.
We also had friends there at the same time who had to upgrade to the VIP bracelet because you don't have access to all the areas.
we were lucky to be with VIP's. Just do your homework. Definitely visit tripadvisor.

We had no air conditioning in our room - among many other things - otherwise I would have loved the room.
The pools were nice, that was our salvation

We loved the Paradisus Punta Cana when we were there 8 years ago (so not sure how it is now!). We stayed at Secrets 2 years ago and had a so-so experience. I wouldn't recommend it for the amount of $$ they charge!
