Doggie Doo-Doo
Sorry, gross I know....but our dog has had diarrhea for the last week. I feel so bad for him. He had an accident in the house, thank God it wasn't on the carpet. We did change his dry food, but that was about two months ago.
What can I do for him? TIA

Re: Doggie Doo-Doo
HOw many treats do you feed him a day?
Does he eat sticks? (take them away)
Is he lethargic?
Are you mixing wet food with Dry? If so, I would stop. I would just use dry food
You have to be sure that he is not getting dehydrated. I would call your vet and see if he needs you to go in.

Re: Doggie Doo-Doo
When Daisy has had diarrhea in the past, I stop her normal dog food, and cook white rice and boiled chicken. Once her poop gets solid again, I transition in her food back in with the chicken and rice until I no longer need to give her the latter and she's fully on the dog food again. If the diarrhea continues, see your vet.

Re: Doggie Doo-Doo
I don't give him too many treats...maybe 1-2 a day.
I do mix canned wet food with dry, so I will try to stop that for a bit and I will also try boiled rice.
If that doesn't work then I will call the vet.
Thanks for the suggestions.

We are still learning as we go along. We do mix our puppy's wet food with dry, but we are now weaning him off it. We use very little wet food (about 1/2 teaspoon to 1 1/4 cup dog food) and we have noticed his poops are more solid. He didn't have the diarreaha but we recently found out from our local dog food distributor that we were over feeding our dog, which is why we are reducing his food intake. We were feeding him 3 cups a day but now it is down to 2 1/2.

This is what our vet said to do when our pup had diarrhea for a few days and he gave us Science Diet I/D Canine(mixture chicken and rice). Also make sure he is drinking because they can get dehydrated. If it still doesn't get better i would take him to the vet to make sure everything is fine.

Re: Doggie Doo-Doo
When Porter had Diarreah for the longest time we tried everything. Turns out he had Colotis and needed more Fiber in his diet. SO he is on prescription food mixed with his regular food.

Re: Doggie Doo-Doo
My dog likes to eat berries that fall from a neighbors tree into our yard. This is the time of year that those berries are here. He gets diarrhea from them. We put up a temporary fence to keep him out of a portion of the yard. If you let your dog into the yard, check for this.

Re: Doggie Doo-Doo
Does he chew on any rawhides? When the vet gave our dog rawhide chews with something for his teeth on them he got the same thing. By process of elimination I figured out what made him sick. Unfortunately we didnt figure it out quickly enough and he did it right on the carpet!!!!
