Does your toddler ever hit him/herself?

Sometimes DS does this and I am not sure if it's a developmental phase or if I should be concerned? It's so upsetting to see, and obviously I go to him, tell him do nice and hug him while telling him we don't hit.....but OMG I get really upset seeing it and thinking something may be wrong. Any experiences with this?

DS did this from abotu 15-18 months when he was mad or frustrated. Its totally normal and they do it bc they dont yet have the words to express their feelings. I asked my pedi and she said to just ignore it.

both my DC do/did this. They both did it around 15 months - 2 years. The best thing is to ignore it. The more attention you bring to it the more they do it. I wouldn't worry. It seems to be related to when they get frustrated since they aren't able to communicate well yet.

Chelsea does this when she is throwing a temper tantrum. She hits herself or the couch for some strange reason...
