Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
DS is 14 months and I'm a SAHM. He usually naps 12-3 and I schedule shopping, appointments, playdates around them. However, this summer we have lots of parties, BBQs, etc. and people are looking to get together during the afternoon Do you ever skip naps for these functions? Should I just decline these offers? Will he crash at 6 and be up all night?

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
*I* do my best not to skip naps. I have always been anal about that and this is my second child. Sometimes that means attending functions late or DH/myself going with older DD and the other person meeting up later. It really has either never interfered much or just not bothered me enough to notice. I am sure everyone feels this way but my DD's sleep is important to her health so that makes it important to me. To my own demise, my children are at home sleepers---I made them that way.

My DD (now almost 3) always naps from 12:30 to 3:30 but on the weekends we'll push her through naps if we have parties and things to do. I don't really decline anything at this age because of a nap. When she was younger I would cut her naps short if I had some where to be.

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
DD cannot handle skipping naps. Last week we had a party from 12 - 3 (her prime nap time) so we stayed at the party til 215ish and then she fell asleep right away in the car. She napped shorter than normal but we put her in bed at the normal time.
I still have her nap, even if I need to do it later via a spin in the car or the stroller.

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
as long as he can sleep at least 3 hours, it doesn't matter when he gets the sleep. it can be 1 nap or 2, but he really needs the 3 hrs. He didn't get it yesterday and he was a total embarrassment at a party from 5-7ish.

Dd is not a good sleeper at all both at night or naps. We have a lot going on during the summer too, she defiently misses naps or they are shortened but she doesn't seem to have a big problem with it. When ever we are home I try to keep her on a schedule.

DS is the same. He is usually okay if he skips one nap (he takes 2, usually only 45 min to 1 hr each). If he misses a nap i try to put him to bed early.

we don't skip naps, but lots of times they get pushed back or forward. sometimes DS is just too stubborn or having too good a time to nap. usually on mondays he takes an extra nap because of the weekends. by choice, not imposed by me

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
I try not to skip naps, but today for example we had a graduation party right in the middle of his nap time.. 1pm... We went to the party for 3 hours and he crashed in the car on the way home. 40 minute nap was better then no nap. He went to bed at a normal hour. He is 20 months old and I have been able to push his naps back since he was about 12-14 months old.. There are days he won't nap at all while we are out and still won't go to bed until 8-9pm..

No, he'd be a total monster! Sometimes we do adjust wake up times and nap times and bed times, but we always fit a nap in!

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
DS did not nap on saturday or sunday We were busy at family parties and he only sleeps in his crib or carseat. He usually naps 3-4 hours in the afternoon. I really hope he goes back to that today!

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
He does skip one of his two naps every now and then. If he doesn’t pass out in the car driving to or from somewhere, then he will be up for a while enjoying wherever we are. Once we are somewhere napping is out the window. I’m lucky he doesn’t become cranky if he doesn’t nap when we are out and about. All the action entertains him and keeps his mind off of being tired, I gues. He has skipped a nap while at home too. He will hang out in his crib for an hour and not sleep. Sometimes he’s just not tired.

Re: Does your LO skip naps on weekends?
Depends. He sleeps well in daycare all week and weekends we're usually busy running errands. I try and get him on his schedule if we don't have too much. He usually takes some cat naps in the car when we're in and out or in the stroller.

Same here, DD will skip naps on the weekends or sleep a shorter amount of time if we're in the car or something... but she's usually okay with it as long as she's busy so I don't plan around naptime. She will go to bed a bit earlier too if she skips the nap.
