Does your 4 month old...

Laugh yet? Dd smiles a lot and when excited smiles and flails her arms and legs around. She makes noises, but not a real laugh.

Does your 4 month old roll over yet? Dd doesn't even try and she hates tummy time. She cries and eventually gets hysterical and it takes a while to calm her down.

I am worried she doesn't do these things yet. Any advice?

Does your 4 month old...

I *think* DD started laughing about 5-6 months. Now, at 8 months - they are real belly laughs.
As for rolling over. She would roll from back to belly, but not belly to back until about 6 months. My advice would be to keep up with tummy time. I know most kids HATE it. Does she have one of those activity mat things? I would use that for tummy time and it seemed to keep her too occupied to get upset; looking at the lights & toys, etc.

My DS at 4 months was laughing... as far as rolling over, he just rolled from back to belly for the first time yesterday and he will be 5 months in less than a week... I am guilty of not putting him down for enough tummy time though, maybe 5 min a day because he also hates it and gets frustrated, even on his playmat/gym thing. My SIL puts her daughter down for tummy time all the time and at christmas she was rolling from stomach to back and she is 2 weeks younger than my DS. i would not worry though every baby is different!

Re: Does your 4 month old...

DS just started to "laugh" a week or so ago. He is 16 weeks. So far he has only done it a few times, on the changing table, and for me. Not for DH yet.

He has been rolling over from belly to back since he was 8 weeks, pretty early, but only does it some of the time. He is not yet rolling from back to front, which I think is harder. He's rolling onto his side, so maybe soon!

I am wondering when babies start sitting up, and do you need to put them in position or do they do it on their own??

I am sure every baby is a little different and will do things at their own pace!!

It all depends on the baby, I never did tummy time my babies hated it. They were able to roll over by 5 mths and back to front by 6 mths. They were sitting up by 8 mths fully in assisted and were crawling then at 10 mths they both decided to walk and now at 11 mths they are fully walking.

With my 1st, I did tummy time every day a few times a day & lied at 6 months to my ped about him rolling over.

With my second, she rolled over at some point before 6 months (I don't really remember). She never got tummy time.

Point being, don't stress! It all happens with time.

DD will be 4 mos on the 28th.
She JUST giggled (real ones, not just smiles) last night.
She likes to lay on her back, not a big fan of tummy time so we don't so it for very long.
She tried to roll from back to belly once. That's it. No other progress on that.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't concerned but her doctor was like "so she's laughing a lot?". And I said not yet and she had a concerned face and was like " does she spend a lot of time with a family member who is very serious?". And I said no she isn't serious and smiles all the time and gets excited. But just hasn't laughed! It made me think she missed a milestone. I can't wait to hear her laugh!

my dd is 5 months.

last month she was giggling a lot when you tickle her or do silly sounds etc. However she doesn't roll over much. We were displaced due to Sandy and couldnt do much tummy time for about 2 months. She doesnt like tummy time too much anyway, it will only last a few minutes before she starts screeching. She is 5 months now and doesnt roll at night when she sleeps. Sometimes during tummy time she will roll over, but not much

My dd started to laugh at 3 months and also rolled from tummy to back. She sleeps on her tummy so when she fusses she pushes with her feet and wiggles her tush.

Just remember that milestones are just markers and some babies take a just to reach them. I wouldn't be concerned.

My DD only laughed when I tickled her and not everytime I tickled her around 4-5 months but did not roll over AT ALL. Shes 6 months and JUST started rolling about 1-2 weeks ago and now she laughs at anything not just tickling. And she HATES tummy time. She can hold her head up, get up on her elbows but cannot do anything with her legs they just flail and she cries like hysterical. I hear a lot of my friends tell me their kids HATED tummy time too.

ETA: I wouldnt be concerned I think babies hit these milestones at their own pace. I would only start to worry if its like shes getting older and older and shes not hitting important milestones and YOU see something seems off.
