Re: Does GHI cover?
MY dh is in the NYPD w/GHI. We are covered for nearly everything that is conventional. Some of my immune testing was not covered. IUI is covered. You must have 3 or 4 unsuccessful iuis in order to do IVF. At that point they cover three in a lifetime. ( I think they make a few exceptions to this rule if oyou have written reason from doc.) I think we had to pay out of pocket for clomid, but I alreadyy can't remember. Overall the coverage was very good, but the copays can get to be expensive after a while.
Good luck!

the GHI is the same then. My meds were covered under DH's union, but I remember someone else on here that was a sargeants wife, and she said they did not have med coverage.

MY hubs a sgt. Yep, I think the clomid was not covered. I was lucky enough not to need anything more. Hope the dectectives union covers those meds.

Re: Does GHI cover?
Thank you ladies.....I know that NYPD's insurance have a better plan...but since detective's union is smaller the plan is different. That's what my hubby explained to me when he became a dectective. But its looks hopeful.

Re: Does GHI cover?
Hello,
My husband is an NYPD Sgt.
As far as the meds, I later found out that although the union does not cover the injectible meds, the city DOES cover 3 cycles under the PICA plan. If you call on the back of your GHI card, it'll say Express Scripts. They'll give you the info. As for clomid, it is not covered, but the cost is not too bad, (like $60-$70 for a month)
As far as IUI coverage, the GHI is great. BUT, I literally just found this out today. I am going for IVF and since my dr. does the actual retrieval and transfer in a hospital and not the office, it goes to the Empire hospital plan, NOT GHI, for the procedures and it is NOT covered. GHI still covers 75% of the embryologist fees, etc. It's probably going to cost us close to $4,000 for the fresh cycle and $1,100 for a frozen.
We don't want to switch dr.'s at this point, but if you are at the beginning stages and you think you might need IVF, I would find out ahead of time if the dr. you are going to does the procedure in the hospital or office. My sis in law paid $1,200 for her fresh cycle because it was done in the office.
Good luck.

Thank you for the information. I haven't even been told I have a problem yet...the only thing is that some blood work about a year ago came back with the possibility of PCOS. My cycles are 41 days long and been TTC for almost a year(2 weeks shy of it)....I just want to be prepared for anything and everything. I am currently looking for a new OB/GYN and most likely go to an RE after that.

Re: Does GHI cover?
I wish the $1,200 was the Empire hospital fee!!! That is the high end of the estimate for the 25% GHI copay for embryology, etc.
The hospital part is $2,690!!!!!
I wonder why mine would be so much more?

My 25% coinsurance totaled $2337.25 Then I had $2130 in uncovered services (cryo, storgae, and thaw of sperm [nsuh uses as a back-up], embryo storage and copays). And thenthe $1200.
So in total it was $5667.25.
