Does FORD not lease new cars anymore??
Anyone know? I'm having trouble finding an answer on the internet.

What the he11!!!
We also went to look at the Edge yesterday and inquired about leasing it and the dude told us that Ford no longer does leases. Obviously that is not the case if you just went yesterday to look at the same exact car on a lease!
I don't live in NY but I'm assuming if they stopped leasing cars, that would be a nationwide thing right?!

No, it could be state by state.

leaseing market is not so hot in NY right now also, many banks don't do it because of laws with liability, etc..

I'll be going to a different Ford dealership this afternoon. We'll see what they tell me there.

For the last couple of years ford hasn't been leasing
But they do something similar called a smart buy
Which has a lower monthly payment but has a ballon payment at the end- you can either return it or buy it at the end
This is b/c of the laws in ny

Laws will be different in each state. From what my DH explained, and I might not be relaying the info correctly, but the different car companies have selectively chosen specific models to lease vs. all of them. It depends on how well the car sells and its residual values after the lease. So, for example, a Pontiac Vibe or a G6 will lease but a Pontiac Torrent wouldn't. Unfortunately, neither of us know what the status of Ford's leases are.

It had/has to do with Vicarious Liability Laws...in NY it was Law 388...an old law that was implemented back in 1924. Somewhere a long the way it was discovered on the books and some lawyers used it to make banks and car companies liable for accidents caused by drivers of their vehicles...
The law was reversed in NY in 2005....
A lot of the car companies did what Ford did. They would call it a lease but it was actually formatted differently.
It was under my impression that most car companies reentered the lease market after the law changed....
Perhaps b/c of the economy they arent leasing?

I know for a fact that Ford did lease cars about 2 years ago.....I have a family member who is currently leasing their truck.
