Does Fondant cake taste good???
I am thinking about a fondant cake for Peyton's BDay because they are so pretty, but I am worried it tastes yucky. I will never hear the end of it from my family if the cake tastes gross.
I have never eaten one. PLEASE share!

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
Cake is cake, it can be as good or as bad as any other cake.
I've heard that a lot of people don't like fondant, and just peel it off the cake before they eat it.
In general, it usually doesn't taste good.

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
Chris, the cake tastes the same, but the icing (personally)...yuck.
I'd try it first (maybe on a cookie or something or ask for a sample at the bakery). Some people like it.
It does look nice though

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
I'm not a fan of fondant. To me it is too sugary and chewy. I like traditional icing better. I have eaten a few fondant caks that were very good because they put a good amount of icing under the fondant and betwwen the layers.

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
Fondant is edible BUT extremely sweet since it's all sugar........and a lot of it. Bakers usually use it so the cake has a nice smooth finish to decorate but when it comes time to serve the cake you're *technically* suppose to remove the fondant from the cake first, then cut, and serve. I think fondant cakes look absolutely beautiful so I would absolutely order one.

I think so. I just had some the other day at a friend's party. It was a Hello Kitty cake from the Pink Lady in Denville, NJ I thought it was delicious!

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
Depends where you order it from. Find out from your baker how they make their fondant and if you can taste a sample cupcake or something.
Don't know where you live but Black Forest Bakery in Lindenhurst did our wedding cake and it was awesome. He uses buttercream or something in his fondant so it's softer (not leathery) and tastes great.
Every baker is different so you've got to taste test.

I had a fondant cake for DS' Christening and it was disgusting. Never again will I get that. It did look really pretty though.

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
I have a big sweet tooth & I can't eat fondant.
It's to sugary & I don't like the consistency in my mouth.
I prefer good old fashioned frosting

Re: Does Fondant cake taste good???
I am not a fan of Fondant. We had Ryan's cake made with fondant for his 1st birthday. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Because the rest of the cake was delicious and the fondant was easily avoided on my plate.
