Does everyone do PIO with IVF?
My RE said I'll be doing progesterone suppositories 2x/day after the IVF and not PIO.
Is that normal? Is one better than the other?
He said they haven't bee doing PIO for at least a year now...

I started off with progesterone suppositories two times a day because with every other injectable cycle, the suppositories were sufficient to keep my progesterone levels good.
But, about a week after my transfer I went in for bloodwork and my progesterone was dropping and too low - it started at 13, then went to 11, and that's when my RE switched me to the shots, and it's been between 50-60 every time.

what is the dosage for the suppositories?
I take 1 mL of the PIO every night.

I was given one vial of the PIO- I think it's enough for like- 5 injections. Then I have supplements for after that.

I only did PIO for 3 days, then moved to suppositories 4x a day.

this cycle I did PIO for 4 days and am now on progesterone suppositories 4x a day. HTH!

Some RE's will either do only suppositories, or the first few days on PIO then switch. Some do only PIO. I was on PIO from the day after retrieval until the week before I was released from the RE

I was on PIO 1x a day plus supps 4x a day for almost 11-12 weeks because my progesterone levels kept dipping up and down.
I think if you have a steady progesterone # you won't need PIO

I never thought i would say this but I actually prefer the PIO. It only a few minutes of discomfort 1x a day as opposed to 3x a day of  from the suppositiories plus it shows up in your blood and that gives you peace of mind that the levels are ok.

I felt the same way. I was on them for a total of 8 weeks. My butt is still sore from them though!! But I think the suppositories work just as well so don't worry about NOT doing them.

I was kind of worried since I always hear people talking about PIO - but when I asked my RE, he said they don't use those anymore at their clinic...
