Does anyone use 1-800-Contacts?
If so, do you like them? Are they cheaper?

I used to... they are quick, and were much cheaper than my eye doctor, but they require the name and number of your eye doctor and will call your doctor to verify your prescription.

Did you still go to your eye dr. for an eye exam once a year, or how often?
Thanks.

I still go once a year (because I get an exam free with my insurance), but you could order several years worth of contacts at once so long as you are within a year of when your prescription was written.
For me I thought they were a little more expensive than I think visiondirect.com, but when I called they price matched, and they had every kind in stock, which visiondirect did not.

Actually, I stopped using them because the last time I made an order, they called to verify with my doc and I guess because I hadn't been there in 2 years I was denied. So, I had to make an appointment - I ended up going somewhere else and the contacts were so cheap at my new doc that I don't bother with 1-800 Contacts anymore. So, if you haven't had an eye exam in over a year, there's a chance you may be rejected.

Re: Does anyone use 1-800-Contacts?
They do call your eye dr. to verify your Rx, but I do not go once a year anymore. I used to (b/c when I ordered contacts from my dr they made me), but now I go when I feel my Rx is off- I'd day once every 1 1/2 years.
ETA: i've definately ordered extra contacts from them after the 1 year mark with no issue...i guess it depends on the doctor. i have better insurance now though, so i'll probably go back to going once per year.

Re: Does anyone use 1-800-Contacts?
A law was put into affect two years ago where all these online contact companies MUST have a valid prescription from your doctor. That being said, they either require you to fax them the most recent prescription (must be w/in one year) or they call your doctor to confirm.
I tried to order more contacts after my prescription expired (by two months) and they did not approve it.
I ended up going to my eye doctor and ended up paying less than I would have online w/all the rebates/discounts he gave me.

I use them because they are definitely quicker and cheaper than going through my eye doctor. I go for yearly check-ups and I've never been denied.

Re: Does anyone use 1-800-Contacts?
I've found visiondirect.com to be the least likely to contact the doctor. They are required to call the doctor (they never get mine) but they give them 24 hours to respond and if they don't they send out the order anyway.

I used too, but since I've been getting my contacts at Costco, I've found that to be the cheapest! I just got one years supply of Accuvue2's, spent $112 and got a $30 rebate!

Re: Does anyone use 1-800-Contacts?
I used www.lens123.com because they had my prescription from Davis Vision and it ended up being the same price if I used my lame 10% off from Empire Blue Cross. I got them today actually..they were sitting in the cold.
