Does anyone know what this is?????

My dad's backyard is growing some funky tree like weeds. He refuses to cut this one down because he thinks it's pretty. He's been trying to figure out what it is.....But I keep telling him it's a weed that's been growing too long. It is pretty, but we don't know what it is. Any ideas?
