Does anyone know Park Slope?

DH and I are looking at 2br condos in Park Slope and seem to have found some amazing deals around 16th Street and 6th Avenue, on the west side of the park. Is this a bad area? Trying to figure out why these homes so cheap!!

Re: Does anyone know Park Slope?

My DH grew up in Parkslope (we live in Bayridge now). He has nothing but great things to say about it. From what I see when I visit the INL's or just hang out, its pretty family friendly, lots of lovely brownstones, mom & pop shops and restaurants (especially on 5th Ave) and not to far from Manhattan with the N,R,Q,4,5.

DH's cousin's live in Park Slope with their 10 month old daughter. They love it. Very busy, a lot of young families.

I think that area is considered the "South Slope," which I think is less desirable than being in Park Slope proper or right off of Prospect Park. I think the best thing to do is go to the area and walk around and see what you think of it!

Re: Does anyone know Park Slope?

16th and 6th is sort of on the fringe of Park Slope, but it's still a nice area. If you're going to visit, one thing to keep and eye, or an ear, out for is noise from the Prospect Expy which is one block over.

6th Ave itself doesn't have a lot of shops, it's mostly 3-4 story residential buildings, but 5th and 7th Aves both have a lot of shopping and restaurants. The 'main' area of the Slope is generally considered from Union Street (to the North) and south to 9th Street. There are still plenty of nice areas outside of that main area though. Go take a look. If you have a car, also consider parking, as Park Slope is notorious for being difficult to find parking.

Best of luck to you!!
