Does anyone know if insurance allows you to do some same bloodtests with different drs in the same week?
I have a script from OBGYN for gynecological tests, but some other tests are checked off that I would take with my primary doctor at my yearly physical. One test has to be done ASAP, tomorrow. So I have to get these tests tomorrow at a lab and then coincidentally, I have my yearly physical Friday with primary doctor, where she will request some more in depth tests of some that will be taken tomorrow. Does insurance allow me to take some of these tests twice in one week with separate doctors or will they deny one? Some will be the same. I have to have blood drawn twice at each doctor's request as each one has their own list of what they will want. I was actually thinking of cancelling my primary appointment Friday for a month so I will make it easier, but I would hate to do that. It just turns out this happened the same week as my yearly physical with yearly bloodwork.

I cant imagine they wont cover it. The tests are for something DIFFERENT. Thats my opinion.
Call your insurance and check.
If it were me I would get the tests without calling. I dont see why it would not be covered.

I think they would cover, I had different labs by 2 different DR. done with one draw, but I might not repeat the same blood work if, one Dr ordered and its the same. Both Dr can have the results sent to them.
Like Para, said call insurance co. I did and they said yes BUT I got the name of the person I spoke to. Glad I did,

Thanks so much. Some of the tests I will get tomorrow are the same as what my primary will do in her office on Friday. I am just concerned insurance will see identical tests taken a few days apart from different drs and deny it somehow.

No idea if they cover it, but why get the test twice? Ask the lab to send a copy to the second Dr. If they're in the same group - both with winthrop or both with north Shore for example- they can probably just log in and see it.

I'm not sure if insurance will cover it but why don't you have both bloodwork scripts with you when you go to bed the bloodwork. They will draw the blood for all the tests requested by both Drs. Then the lab sends the results of ALL of the tests to both Drs. (I would confirm this while at the lab. All they do is put both Drs down on the sheet for who gets the report. I've done this before) This is a win win because you don't have to have the same tests twice (and questions whether insurance will cover it) and you only need to go to the lab once!
ETA: I just noticed you don't have the script from your primary Dr. Call them and ask them to fax the script to the lab.

Usually they will not cover the same tests twice at different doctors. I would have your primary doctor request the results from your OB instead of re-drawing.

Yes same. I would tell her, look I just got this same test done, and have them send her the results.

Is it just a routine annual check up?
I personally would postpone. Then again, I hate needles and would avoid taking 2 blood tests.

This. It also depends on what the test is. A CBC, yeah they'd probably cover twice. Something like a hemoglobin A1C, probably not.

Thanks for responses. Funny how it worked out, my yearly physical with primary doctor cancelled and I won't be going for another month and a half. So it worked out.
