Does anyone know......
about how much of a $20,000 IF cap would be used if you do IVF including meds? I have a 20k lifetime cap and have used about 3k so far from IUI's. I would LOVE to do IVF but I'm afraid it would use up most of our cap. I know IVF is very expensive but as I understand it the insurance company negotiates a set payment for each procedure and the RE accepts it. (hope that makes sense).

I'm not really sure. I know that procedure prices vary according to RE office, and I think the same goes for meds and pharmacies. It will also change according to whether or not you need assisted hatching, ICSI, Etc.

Re: Does anyone know......
It depends on your insurance company and what rates have been negotiated. It also depends if meds come off of that cap. I did IVF with ICSI and assisted hatching. My meds were covered seperately (were not charged to the IVF cap)
Anyway, I was able to do 2 full cycles and a part of a 3rd with only a $10,000 cap. Before I started these cycles, the RE's office called my insurance and found out everything that was covered and at what amounts and they told me I would get at least 2 cycles out of it.
However, I know some people who hardly had one cycle covered by their insurance. So, you really need to have your RE's office call, give your insurance company all the codes and figure everything out.

The cost of IVF varies from RE. I also believe it varies according to insurance. Because my insurance considred RSofNY a center of excellence, my IVF was 6K. Meds were not included in my cap.
