How do you know he/she is anxious? what do you do that help them reduce their anxiety?

We used to, it's a heck of a lot better than it used to be.

First off, what triggers it? Is it separation anxiety? Loud noises, unexpected things, strangers, etc?

Ya know, it's strange. He is fine when we leave him all day, and isn't fraked out by loud noises. It just seems to "happen" out of nowhere. We are sitting on the couch and he just starts anxiously running around. Wanting to go out so we let him out and then wanting to come in. We exercise him a lot so I don't think that's it. I'm not really sure what the cause of it is. But when people come over he won't sit down for 2 seconds. He runs around the house like a lunatic. We let him out and he runs around the yard like a lunatic. Nothing seems to calm him down.

That sounds more like hyperactivity than anxiety. Do you have guests pretty regularly or is it a once-in-a-while thing?

Brinkley always gets excited when he meets people, without fail. He does calm down pretty quickly though, and we don't encourage him to be excited after the initial greeting.

When you exercise him, do you take him on walks where he can explore and meet other people/dogs? We walk on a busy street on purpose sometimes, to kind of expose him to that. We overload him a little on the walks so he'll relax when he gets home.

Also, bagged treats are really high in protein which can make them a little manic and other things that they don't really need. You could try switching to natural treats like carrots and pieces of banana, apple, etc. and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for writing! We don't have guests over consistently but the people that do come over, Yogi tends to be familiar with. Our neighborhood is really quiet so there aren't a lot of places to walk him where we could expose him to other dogs/people. I thought about taking him to the park, but when we had him in training the trainer recommended against it. Mainly because you dont know what kinds of dogs are there and if the owners know how to control them.

For treats, we give him carrots. We try not to give him dog treats b/c they are not the healiest.
