one of my favorite albums is by Nikka Costa she was on the MTV radar for about 30 seconds about 6 years ago before disappearing again

How obscure really are Gogol Bordello...they played with Madonna at Live Earth last year. They got her to sing in Romanese...
I put my hands up to liking obscure music, as many of my friends are "obscure" musicians. But its all relative isn't it...I mean, I love Gorkys Zygotic Mynci and The Super Furry Animals and The Olivia Tremor Control.., you might not have heard of them, but I wouldn't consider them obscure.
(just realised how defensive I sound...not meant to be that way.)

Obscure meaning not in the mainstream - there are musicians I don't even think are obscure that people never heard of, but they are enough in the mainstream to shimmy their way out - in fact, I am hearing Noah and the Whale so much, that it has found its way out of obscurity...
I try very hard to find music that you wouldn't hear anywhere! Its like finding gold to me!
