I actually have gotten into several personal finance blogs. This is a really interesting topic to me. Especially seeing how people who make half as much $$$ as I do get by creatively in the NYC area.

Not as frequently as I used to but most of my blogs are about gardening, the environment, flower wallpaper...
My blog started out as a hodge podge but I focused it over time to one or two subjects. No one really wants to read about mundane daily life so I picked an audience and geared it towards that.
Although I wish I had more commenters, I do get between 150k to 200k hits a month. Mostly because of the pictures that show up in Google Image searches.

Only for time-limited, specific events. I did one for my elbow surgery, and I plan on doing one when we get our house worked on. That way, I know how long the blog will last for, and I don't have to think of something to write about. It also makes it easier to tell people what's going on. Instead of trying to remember who I told what to, I just point them to the blog.
