Docs Appt today + NT Scan discussion
good morning ladies. I had a doc's appt today where they drew blood to do some testing to check for everything they need to check and they also did an ultrasound. I am 10w5d and baby measured at 11w1d which is great. My doctor finally discussed the options we have to check for any genetic disorders. Is it really necessary to do the NT scan my doctor said it was totally optional but DH and I are leaning more towards doing the scan. What did most of you do? I know this has been asked about a milliion times so sorry I just need to know lol TIA

I don't remember them really giving us an option on this.. Basically they gave me a sheet of tests they do throughout your pregnancy so I just opted for everything they recommended. :) I am glad I did take the test because it does test for certain chromosomal abnormalities so I think knowing my chances would help greatly. either way it wouldn't make a difference but at least I would have an understanding and prepare myself incase of anything..:)

We did not have this done....we felt like it is more stress than it's worth. The results are not 100% accurate and false positives are frequent. We decided it wasn't worth my sanity to have the test done. I did do the 16 week blood work and it came back perfect so that's good and the 20 week scan was also perfect, so I feel I made the right decision!

I did the NT scan in both pregnancies for two reasons. One, I felt better having the blood work and scan done because it gave me peace of mind. I would rather know if something was wrong and deal with it then not. Second, NO way I would pass up an opportunity to see my baby.

Docs Appt today + NT Scan discussion
I'm a little neurotic and wanted to see that everything was ok. While the test isn't 100%, I was confident with the percentage that is was correct and had no problem going further with testing if I needed to, just to make sure everything was ok. I need to be as prepared as possible for things, otherwise I panic and have extreme anxiety.
This is 100% your decision and only you and DH can really make that decision. My sister is an OBGYN and she said to me "if you have the test done and need to have further testing, will you continue or will you stop? Also, are you going to terminate if the test results are not good?" It helped us see a bigger picture. There were certain things that IF they were to come back IDK if I would be able to bring a baby into this world that would only live for a few months and be in pain it's whole life. All things to consider when deciding on having the test. Would you follow through with more testing? Are you prepared to raise a child that might not be 100% healthy? And so on.
Like I said it's a personal decision and you and DH are the only ones that have to be able to live with that decision. There are more sonograms and more blood work throughout the pregnancies that can also put your mind at ease. Good luck!
PS - I agree! Any excuse to see the little bean is a plus!
