do your parents/family discuss your infertility with others?
This weekend I was talking to my parents and they mentioned that they were talking to my aunt and she said a family friend's daughter is having trouble conceiving. I asked them how did this even come up in conversation and they said "well you know, we were talking about you and DH" (FYI - we have been trying for a year and just had our 1st IUI fail) I was kind of upset that they were talking about us and they said, "well people ask us why we don't have grandchildren - what do you expect us to tell them?"
I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand it's family. On the other hand I find this whole experience so personal and painful that I don't like the idea of everyone discussing my ability to reproduce.
Has anyone else had this happen? How did you feel or deal with it.

Yep! My mom constantly has stories about other people's successes and failures with different IF treatments, which of course means she's talking to people about what we're going through.
At first it bothered me, but we live 4 hours away from each other and I have enough other stress in my life, so I decided to let it go.
Maybe you could explain to your mom how it made you feel and give her some suggested responses to questions about grandkids.

Yes!!! I dont mind it with strangers but when she talks to extended family members....I go nuts!
My mom is also guilty about giving me advice from what her OBGYN discussed with her.

I just dont tell my parents anything...we tell people we are waiting a few years before having children, then noone will suspect anything.....both sides of our family have BIG mouths!
