Do you think teething can cause night waking?
I do, but I was reading my healthy sleep habits book last night and the ped who wrote it doesn't. My ped thinks it can as well. Just wanted to see what everyone else thinks...

DS stopped STTN after he cut his second tooth and was teething like mad. When his gums are inflammed and he is a drooling mess, he wakes a lot at night. Our pedi told me it is normal when baby's teeth.

IMO the ped that wrote doesn't know what he's talking about and would cause me to find a different book...just my opinion...the only time dd wakes up is when she is teething

DS woke up last night and I'm very sure that it was teething as I can see the teeth starting to cut through his gums.

I know tooth aches have woken me up.
So why wouldn't teeth cutting thru gums wake up a baby ?

That's never been my experience. Maybe my 3 were all just "easy teethers" because teething was pretty much a non-event around here.

It absolutely does. and that ped who wrote that book is nuts..b/c i started reading it a while ago; when i read that he thinks parents are selfish b/c they keep their kids up past 6:30 due to their long work hours and commutes...i pretty much stopped reading it.
that book was of no help to me.
DS was teething so bad last week with his back teeth now that he was up every 2 hours screaming in pain during the nite.

I think so...DS had finally started STTN, but once his teeth started breaking through in multiples (he's got 5 coming in at once now!) all bets were off. Poor little guy

For us, it was never night waking, but very early morning waking. For the 2 weeks before he cut his bottom teeth, he was up for the day at 5. 
I think his top teeth are starting because he was whimpering in his sleep at 4:30 this morning.

We have this problem too - he's often wide awake around 4ish. It takes an hour or 2, but we can usually get him back down for another hour or 2 of sleep after that...we're suffering for it though

no doubt, yes. DS woke up every night at 4am for 2 weeks while his first 2 teeth were coming through.
