Do you tend to want to leave the house more when you can't?
We only have one car seat base and DH drove off to work today with the base in his car. Now that I can't leave the house, I'm going out of my mind wanting to go out

That is always the way. My car has been out of commission all week and I have had so many things that I could get done this week

DH gets stir crazy and even in the worst of weather has to go out even if it's for 15 minutes. It didn't bother me as much when I lived in a bigger house.

Ok, you do know that you can strap a car seat into a car without a base? The base is only for ease of use - which is why it's an option.
Oh and to answer the question - when I can't leave for some reason, I find a number of reasons why I really need to go.

But yes you can strap the carseat in without the base!
