The situation arose this weekend to "regift". We were invited to an engagement party at the last minite - BY PHONE.

Re: Do you regift?
sure do
ets-although I never have for something like an engagement/Wedding. I believe I have for Christmas/birthdays and its usually someone like at work. Never like a family member.

Re: Do you regift?
absolutely. Just because I didnt want/like/need something, doesnt mean someone else wont. Who cares if you paid cash or "credit". But I would never do it if it was someone really special and I wanted to pick out a personalized gift.
But the last minute phone invite sounds like the perfect opportunity.

Re: Do you regift?
My DH's threw him a man-shower at work the day before he was to leave for the wedding. They gave him a checkers shot glass set. My DH goes weeks without having a drink never mind doing shots . My bother on the other hand likes to party a bit. As soon as DH came home with that I thought, there's my brother's Christmas gift because it would be perfect for him.

Re: Do you regift?
I think it totally depends on the situation.
IMO, a gift that you would consider regifting was PROBABLY not given a lot of thought and consideration by the "giver". If you don't like it, and know that someone else would, I don't see the problem.
One thing I do is this: In my Marshall's hunting (which has been toned down a LOT due to the wedding saving), I've come across many things that would make great gifts. (nice watches on clearance, coach wristlets, etc.) I buy them, but not for anyone in particular. When an occaision arises, I check my "gift box" to see if there's anything appropriate in there. A friend of ours just graduated from college (elem ed.), and we wanted to give her a little gift - lo and behold, i checked my box, and came across a Coach apple keychain that I found for $12.99 at the outlet. Perfect gift! (there was no party or anything).

Re: Do you regift?
I often regift food gifts - like around the holidays, if I get alcohol or sweets that I know we won't use, I will often re-gift them as hostess gifts when I go to someone's house for dinner or a party.
I have done it, but only if I am pretty sure that the person would love it and it is not a bad gift, but just something I know I won't use.

Re: Do you regift?
We regift alcohol, since we really don't drink.
We also got some doubles of things on our registry that are perfectly good, so I've given them as house warming gifts.

I have a 'gift box' too, Shorty! Always prepared!
I do re-gift...If I get something I cannot/will not use, and I know someone who would love it, that's usually when it happens.

I also have the same gift box as Shorty, and on occassion, I regift. If I'm not going to use something, why would I keep it around if I think someone else would like it?

Re: Do you regift?
I also have a gift box! I have regifted...From my secret santa last year at work I got a nice Yankee Candle candle holder of a snowman...We have no room in our condo for much decorative stuff, but MIL loves snowmen! She loved it. Why not if someone else would like it more? P.S. Soinlove don't tell your mom! I also gave her other gifts bought just for her!

That's how I feel...I wouldn't regift something I think is crap but if the recipient would truly enjoy the item and it's in store bought condition I would.
