Do you really need one of those bottle brushes?
Are bottle brushes necessary? Dont they just carry bacteria? I dont see how those things are sanitary but I could be wrong. How do you ladies clean the bottles and nipples? TIA

I used a dr browns bottle brush it's my fav type. I change it every 3-4 weeks and I only use it for bottles. Not sure what other type of product to use to clean bottles. I also pre washed the nipples and than sterilized in boiling water.

I use Avent bottles and my hand and sponge fit in the bottle. No need for a brush - that's a big reason I chose them.

I never used one with my 1st son. We used playtex drops in with him.
With my 2nd son, we use dr browns bottles and it's completely necessary to have a bottle brush to get in the 8 ounce bottles to clean them.

Oh yea, I def. understand why you would need one for the large bottles but DS is only using the 4oz ones now. I have just been soaking all the bottles and their parts in hot water and then rinse them in hot water but I dont use a bottle brush or a sponge. I hope thats ok..

Re: Do you really need one of those bottle brushes?
we have the dr browns and use a bottle brush to clean the bottles themselves, then the smaller nipple brush to clean the insides of the nipples, and the plastic inserts that the dr browns bottles have, and then the tiny skinny brush that comes with the dr browns bottles to clean the inside of the blue shaft/straw thing.
i don't use the same sponge i use to clean my dishes with, and i keep my bottles in a separate container that is suction cupped to the side of my sink
to me.. scrubbing with a brush or sponge on the actual surface of the bottle or parts is what really helps clean it, especially the nipples. When i put them in the dishwasher, i still feel like they have a slight film on them that they dont' have when i hand wash them
but thats just me
oh, and i change the brush every few weeks (it usually falls apart by then anyway)

I can't see how it would be enough either. I always used a brush, and had to on the Dr browns parts. I would soak them during the day amd use the brushes to scrub them down at night with HOT soapy water and rinsed them super well.
I would change the brushes about once a month.

I used the avent one because it is not sponge material they are bristles and they are very wide spread. I could see using a sponge for the avent bottles but not for any other ones.

I have the dr Brown and born free brushes bc if I just rinse, there's still a slimy film residue

Yes, definitely use one everytime we clean bottles. I always keep one at the sink and two new ones as back-up and change them frequently.

Re: Do you really need one of those bottle brushes?
Um... yeah. It's really necessary to get a bottle brush. Crap will grow in the bottom rim without it.
I'd still sterilize the bottles weekly (in boiling water X5 minutes).

Re: Do you really need one of those bottle brushes?
I use drop ins so I only use a bottle brush on my pump bottles. All nipples get thrown in a bowl of soapy water then at the end of the night they all go in the dishwasher basket then into the dishwasher.

Re: Do you really need one of those bottle brushes?
I couldnt live without them. We use the ones by munchkin they're about 3 bucks at target and we change it about every 2 weeks. Once we're done washing the bottles daily we throw them in the microwave steam sterilzer, its great if you dont have a dishwasher.
