Do you need a bag for your carseat if you are checking it when flying?

My friend has one and told me I need to get one. I never heard of this. Is it necessary? Do you just check the seat by itself, or do I need to get this bag? TIA

You don't need one. However, I like having one to protect the car seat. If you watch how luggage is handled sometimes, it may make you want one too. But you can check the seat by itself. If we are checking DS's car seat, I always check it with our bags at the check in. There is no point in lugging it throughout the airport.

Nope. Sometimes they put it in a plastic bag for you. Over Thanksgiving they ran out of bags. But, whenever I flew on a regular day they bagged it for me. When they didn't bag it, it was fine. It didn't get dirty.

We've always gate-checked ours and never used a bag.

Every time we have flown, they have given us a giant plastic bag for each of the car seats. Works just fine for us.

I always ask for a plastic bag, when I check it.

I would just to protect it - you know how they throw things around.

Awesome, thanks. Think I might get it. Thanks everyone for responding. Now... do I need the stroller bag too? We plan on bringing the Maclaren. Chat Icon

Our car seat cost us a lot of money. We bought a car seat cover to protect it.

We take our city mini on the plane. I took a plastic garbage bag and it put it around it at the gate. We get it back with the garbage bag still on the stroller. It works for us.

That definitely fits our budget- thanks! All these little things add up! Maybe I'll use a plastic bag for the car seat too!
