Do you know young people like this?

I was at a deposition yesterday of this couple regarding the construction of thier house. The couple is in their late 50's/ early 60s. The wife is a housewife with grown children in their 30's.

The wife was deposed first. She didn't know anything about the work performed on her house. She didn't know what was done and who was hired. She didn't know how much everything cost. She said her DH dealt with everything and when he was stressed, he would tell her that it wasn't for her to worry about, it wasn't her business (not nasty, just not for her to be concerened about).

Now I know EVERYTHING about my DH's business (he has his own) his personal finances and everything else. Everything we do, we do together.

Even when I asked him to design us a coffee table and showed him what I liked, he came to me with all the sketches and even consults me about the details of hardware. (DH makes furniture for a living). I told him I trust him and to do it on his own, but still he came to me with everything.

So do you think there are young couples that still operate like this older couple or is it a generational thing?

totally--i don't think its generational at all--i think its just personality. some ppl just don't want to know about that stuff at all. and they prefer to let their SO handle it.

I think yes there are some couples like this to this day, but majority of marriages now are an equal partnership. I know in my grandparents era, the man took care of everything like the bills, major repairs, etc. When my grandfather passed away my nana didn't even know what bank they had. My grandfather did it all and it worked for them.

I think it is (usually) a generational thing.

Most of the couples I know in my age range share decision making.

I keep DW in the loop with everything.... mainly for self-preservation. I don't want to make a decision, then get scolded for doing the wrong thing/picking the wrong color/buying the wrong scented candle, etc.

I don't think it's generational at all! I know there are lots of couples, young and old who work this way.

It may have been that she was being deliberately vague for the deposition. I have seen that often enough.

Yes and No...Joe and I work at the same company and since he's a sup I really know nothing about his nights.....It's not that he's hiding anything, but with his position he can't talk about things the general company doesn't know....We are open about a lot, but work and some home things are just btwn us. It's not on purpose, but it just works out like that. I'm pretty old fashion. I love my job, but if I could stay home, cook, clean, and do the household chores and arrends I would. I just feel like it's my job. Lucky for me my husband shares my desires, and my desire to be a SAHM someday. Not everybody agrees with my thoughts. but it works for us
