Do You Know What's The Best Selling Car?
...hint, it's not a car, it is actually a pickup truck.
Does it surprise anyone that the Ford F-Series is the best selling vehicle in the world?
I'm too shocked for words, at an mpg of 14 city/19 hwy and with terrible crash test results, this car, er pickup truck, has been the best selling car in the world (mostly in the US) and one is sold every 30 seconds.

I am not totally surprised. It is not only a vehicle but a tool used for a lot of people for working with. It can haul people and "stuff". I don't think gas usage is a factor when it's needed for it's hauling and towing capabilities.

The Camry and Honday are also up there but the Ford F-Series has topped the chart for a long time now. DH and I found this out when we went to test drive a Honda and the dealer was saying how Honda wants the Accord to be the #1 car so they are giving extra incentives to buyers.
Also, in Europe, the best selling car is the VW Golf... goes to show how different we are.

It doesn't surprise me. Here on LI they aren't that common, but go upstate or to middle america and everyone drives pickup trucks. Many people are also anti-japanese car there. Many also do not give a rat's a** about gas mileage/environmental impact.
Whole different mentality in other parts of the country.

Could it be because it is the truck of choice for small manual labor type businesses? I know my Dad had one when he worked in construction. And when they bought a trailer for traveling around the country, there were surprisingly few options on what could handle the load.

That's what I think. It's not just individual people who buy F150s. Lots of companies and industries need pickups for hauling, so they buy a whole fleet of them for employee use.

It makes sense based on what others have posted about using it for businesses.
And I know my DH would love to have one to go to Home Depot in and haul all his "stuff" home- bad gas mileage or not!

Many actually require pick up trucks for their work. I've lived down south, and I intend to go back -- and I will need a large (full ton) pick up truck for my farm and for hauling livestock. It's simply a necessity for a lot of people.
It's not that people are ignorant or don't care about the environment - A lot of people actually DO need a large utility vehicle. No one has come up with a hybrid anywhere near powerful enough to handle a half ton payload or to haul 1+ ton safely. These things are necessities for a lot of people. Even when I start out with a smallish farm, I will need nearly 1 ton payload capacity plus the ability to haul well over 2 tons.
FTR - Ford trucks (especially the diesels) last a LONG time -- 400,000+ miles. I don't like Ford cars generally, but their trucks are really tough to beat. In the next couple of months, I plan to own a big one (and ignore the flames from people who think I don't care about the environment).

The best.
It is actually my dream car.
Ford F-450 pick up truck.
The 450 is the newest, top of the line style... it was "revealed" officially a few months back by their #1 spokesperson TOBY KEITH!!!!!!!!!

Not surprised.....we are one of the happy owners. We have a F150 Harley edition so our MPG is about 10 cause of the engine modifications. We would not have made it through our home renovations without it!!!!

Doesn't surprise me either. I'm from the Midwest and saw them all the time. Almost every family in my family has at least one pickup. We have a Chevy / Ford rivalry going on between family members.
Not everyone needs it for work but it's handy to have for house renovations. I think here on LI, most people hire things out so there is no need but there, we all get together and re-roof someone's house or build their deck. Also, you need something to tow campers, snowmobiles, ice fishing houses, boats & water toys from lake to lake, things to/from the cabin, etc.
