Do you go colorful or soft with buying baby items?

As I finished making my registry for the baby , I found myself going back and forth between choosing soft colors and bright colorful items for my big baby items.

For example, with the swing, bouncer, jumperoo, high chair, pack n play etc, I found myself going back it forth between more sophisticated soft colors with little or no pattern, or being attracted to be more bright, colorful items like Fisher Price's Rainforest or Precious Planet.

I was curious with way you girls went when choosing your items for your baby. Did you choose more "mature" soft and demure colors or did you go traditionally bright and colorful with your items?

the way i see it is:

for sleep items or places where she is supposed to fall asleep - i'd rather not have her STIMULATED....so i tried to avoid BRIGHT colors or patterns....

for toys/etc....went bright and stimulating...

hope this helps in SOME way...

awwww - that's why we're here... i'm no pro at this - a friend told me that reasoning and it made a LOT of sense to me.

the swing can go either way i'd think....you can use it for entertainment or sleep... it's a fun puzzle!

For a swing and a bouncer you want bright - I know I actually prefer the muted colors but the baby usually doesn't. The bright colors won't keep them awake in the beginning when they sleep most of the time anyway but the bright colors give them something to look at and when they are awake they do entertain them - especially the lights.

We had the rainforest bouncer and when she was tired we didn't turn on the music or lights - just the vibrator - when she was awake and wanted to play then we would turn on the lights/music.

Honestly they spend a lot of time in the very beginning in the bouncer and swing, and of course your arms and play mats etc. I would keep the muted colors to their bedrooms if you want to go that route.

Keep in mind what works for one baby won't necessarily work for #2 or your friends child - so a lot of everything it trial and error.

Some things you dont have a choice with...like the playmat, jumperoo or exersaucer...those are just bright! But I went w/a soft color for the swing and high chair (tan) b/c I knew it would be in the middle of my living room and kitchen.

I'd try to get most stuff either a boy or a girl could use, just incase later you have another.

I got that blue bouncy you posted for DS and now I'm having a girl and just HAD to get a second one in pink!! Chat Icon

We do both. It depends on the pattern and the colors that were selected which draws me in.

I try to go neutral for major things that are going to be in the middle of my living room .........-
For toys and mats and that kind of thing I go bright and colorful -

Although I posted in the beginning that I wanted to avoid the bright patterns that come with baby "stuff" I caved in. Our P&P, High Chair and Swings are neutralish enough because they will be out in our LR all the time but you cannot avoid the colors...and knowing the babies will enjoy colors more really answers taht for you....I agree with the PP possibly try for calm colors for sleeping areas and bright colors for playtime......
