Do you follow age recommendations on toys?
Aside from things which would cause a safety hazard, like small peices, etc.
DD is 7.5 months and all the toys that says 6 months plus...she's bored with them. I find she enjoys the ones that say 12 months+ a lot more. I look at the 6 month+ or even some 9month+ and I know she'll be bored with it.
Just wondering if others feel that way too? It's making it hard for Christmas shopping, bc she'll be almost 9 months at that point!

DD always enjoys the toys that are several months ahead. I dont really look at the age
So long as they dont have small pieces I dont care.

I basically make sure it is safe for DS to play with. He usually gets bored of toys within seconds, but can play with pots and pans for hours.

Same here...it's always been that way.
Even now...at 2.5 years.....he is playing with Thomas tracks and other things that say 3+ on them.
I guess it's really just a guideline!

Re: Do you follow age recommendations on toys?
With a small baby and small pieces, I would not give them something too ahead of their age. For a child where the age is more due to skills, I don't have a problem with it.

same. as long as there isn't small pieces to choke on, she can play with whatever she wants.

Ditto. He's 14 months and the majority of stuff we bought for Christmas is for 18+.

Re: Do you follow age recommendations on toys?
As long as DS can't take pieces off and swallow, I'll give him stuff beyond his age. If its something with like, spelling or math or whatever, he's 13 months...there is no way he can do that

Agreed! At 6 months most of DS's toys were 12+ it was just more interesting to him. NOw at 3yo his toys range from 2+, 3+ to 6+

I dont i think something they can grow with and is challanging is good. DS is 5 mon and has 9-12 mon toys. I like to see how he starts off slow and start learning it

Re: Do you follow age recommendations on toys?
As long as it's not something that's a choking hazzard due to small parts I'd say go for it... my DD is bored with her life already too! I have a feeling we will be buying her toys in the next age group when the time comes. This child is ready for kindergarten at 4 months old!
