That when you go out of your way to be helpful, listen to or just be nice to....
that you don't get that in return?

I dont find it hurtful...it does make me really mad though! I usually vow to NOT help that person again.

I think what hurts me more is that i feel some sort of bond was created. That expectations were raised...
And that causes someone to be hurt when you are disappointed

If I am nice to someone, it isn't because I want the same in return. I am helpful, a good listener, or nice only because I want to be.
Although, it would be NICE to get it back in return.

I definitely do find it hurtful.. because I do feel that I am a good friend and try to be there for them... so if/when I do not get that (even in small part) in return.. I feel almost betrayed
Maybe I am too sensitive though

Yes I find it hurtful...especially when, like you said, you feel like a bond was established.
But I don't immediately write the person off. I make excuses for them (to myself) to a point and then I will certainly reconsider going out of my way for them next time. That's something I've had to work on though so that I don't become a doormat. I'm usually very willing to help again even if the same type of consideration was never offered in return to me.

Oh yeah... been there... I just feel bad for people like that- I am a GREAT friend- (in fact, most of the people who have wronged me in life have always come back to try to get my friendship back). Think about the opportunity she lost and the aggravation you saved yourself in the long run with this insensitive person.

Sure happens a lot- some people are just plain arseholes and will never get it- as for me , at first Im like what the - but then Im just like ah they will get thiers and its not up to me to judge them, its out of my hands and I continue to be who I am. If that person comes to me again for help- before I do anything I will mention what happened the last time and tell them that maybe I am not the person they should be coming to anymore and take it from there.

yes i do i get that at work i go out of my way to help someone and no thank you or no help back in return. i guess i am a doormat because i am alway's going out of my way and keep helping them over and over.

I find it hurtful if im going out of my way and it doesn't get acknowledged by someone I have a close relationship with. The next time ill think twice about going out of my way for them again.
