Do you ever get upset when...
Someone complains about little things constantly to you and you are going through some serious cr@p? I mean the stupidest things, things that have an obvious answer and these people b!tch and moan about it like they had to figure out a MAJOR world issue.
I mean some of you know a lot of what I have been through in the past year and trust me, it is WAY more than I have even posted about. I usually keep quiet about most of it until I really need to vent. I feel that everyone has their own stuff and people do get sick of hearing anyone complain ALL the time.
Anyway, I feel as if I have lost ALL patience for these "complaints" they are the equivalent to having a hang nail, IMHO. For instance I am at a client's office today and the receptionist is complaining about her boyfriend who has two baby's mamas and should she still stay with him. She is having this conversation on her cell phone to a friend while I am waiting to see the attorney. She is talking so loud that people in China could hear her, so short of having earplugs, I could not just ignore her. To me, it is simple... DUMP HIS A$$ & move on with your life. UGH! I know I should be a more enlightened person, but I do not have the patience for this kind of stuff anymore. Anyone else feel this way or am I crazy?
Ok, vent over carry on

It bothers me especially because the people that do it often are so self absorbed they never stop to think that perhaps someone is going through their own stuff at any given time and might not want to hear it. Especially when it's ridiculous things that are far from earth shattering.

Re: Do you ever get upset when...
I think that everyone has their own level of tolerance and somedays what seems like a small deal to us is really a big deal to someone else.
However, I do have issues if they KNOW you are going through something huge and they complain over obviously silly stuff.
And, in general, I HATE when people complain about things they have full control over. Like the woman in my office who whines about how fat she is while raiding my candy jar.
I have no patience for those people.
And to you.

Re: Do you ever get upset when...
You're certainly not losing your mind, it's quite bothersome when anyone is ALWAYS complaining and it's usually those that don't have anything to complain about. Those who have real problems tend to be the ones who keep to themselves, and they're really the only ones who have the "right" to complain.
It's a mixed up world we live in!! It makes me think twice when I get upset about something, I think about how much worse things could be and that stops me from complaining.

Re: Do you ever get upset when...
yeah, I'm right there with you.... in the last 3 weeks, both my mom, and my mentor were diagnosed with serious cardiac problems, and my mentor went through sudden MAJOR MAJOR surgery several days ago.
sooo, I'm now 'pseudo-mentor', and have to write exam questions, help get a new post-doc get settled in (she's starting in a couple weeks), finish moving the lab.... all while doing my own work. Also, I have to keep on top of mom's situation, since she depends on me for medical guidance.
In the interim, I have a friend who calls me up and chats about cheesy stuff and complains about mundane cr@p..... all while I'm trying to keep things going in the lab and worrying myself sick about both of them seriously, I can't keep my head above water too much longer but I know I have to.....
on a happier note, I'm just soooo glad my mentor made it through the surgery and he's improving..... and I'm also so grateful mom didn't ALSO have to endure something as horrid as his surgery

You're far from losing your mind. I had some major crap going on two years ago with Dh and his family prior to our wedding. He goes half way across the world to tend to it, I'm a mess not knowing what was going to happen and managed to keep myself together every day. Meanwhile I'm listening to random nonsense like what to do if the boyfriend hasn't called in an hour, etc. I felt like telling them to just get a freakin grip already.
