If DC wants cereal I give it. If DC wants candy I don't.

It depends - if DS did not eat well during the day and he is finally hungry, then I will let him have something healthy (ie. dinner, cheese stick, yogurt, fruit). If he ate well, then the kitchen is closed. I don't like to give them dessert after dinner, otherwise they have trouble going to sleep on time. DS found a snack pack of cookies last night in the pantry and wanted them after dinner, he got them today after lunch instead.

ETS: I will give cereal too....

I give them anything they want since they are picky eaters and hate to eat. If they are hungry, I am so excited!!!Chat Icon

Same here (within reason). DC always get a snack after dinner. Even if 7yo DS has 4 or 5 slices of pizza for dinner, he still wants a snack an hour later.... Chat Icon

It's healthier for them to eat quite a few small meals throughout the day, so they usually have snacks between meals.

No, but sometimes I dictate WHAT they get. If they eat a healthy dinner, they can have a dessert, whatever snack they want. If they didn't eat dinner well, I'll give them something to eat later (don't believe in going to bed hungry), but I dictate the options-- no treats.

no, anytime they want to eat something, they can (they're both lightweights, so I'm always happy to add calories to their day)

Cutoff in my house!
My girls are awesome eaters and eat plenty for dinner. IF they have dessert(which is not everynight) that is it. Done!

Pretty much the same here. We have dinner around 5-6 and desert between 7-8 so there really is no time to be hungry after that.

She can have a cottage cheese or applesauce or banana if she is still hungr after dinner.

We do desserts some nights too-those she only gets if she eats well for dinner but the above she can have regardless.

If they ate all their dinner, they can have whatever they want for the rest of the night! But that never happens Chat Icon
