do you always go for a beta?
after your iui/ ivf etc?
The doctor said it was important because they can see if I'm having a chemical but I was just wondering if everyone always goes or do you just forgo it if you get a BFN on the HPT.

Re: do you always go for a beta?
last cycle i had 12 BFN on hpt's and went for my beta anyway b/c i've had a chemical in the past and i know that information is important for the dr to know. i won't lie, it sucked to go for the beta knowing it would most likely be negative but if for some reason it came back at a super low number, i'd want my RE to know that

Same here. my doctor requires a beta after a ivf cycle. I can't remember if they require one during a n iui cycle but i think they do

Re: do you always go for a beta?
When I did IUIs (4 of them) at NSUH, I never had a beta. AF always arrived by my next appt and then we just moved on (they did do a urine pregnancy test).
That said, I wish they DID do a beta, as I could have found out if I had any chemical pregnancies (as I had with my last IVF).

Always. It's annoying to go after a BFN, but it gives the dr. information if you're having a chemical.

Re: do you always go for a beta?
Unless I got af before my beta, I have always gone. That said, of the cycles where I didn't get a bfp I went for betas just once or twice because I often got af the morning of my beta. I'd cancel and schedule a cd3 in that case. However, after a chemical and finding out about my clotting issues, I do wonder if I had chemicals other cycles and didn't know since I skipped my beta. Even with af u could still have a positive beta. I went for a repeat beta when I had my chemical and had very obvious af at that point but my beta was still showing I was pregnant (though the number decreased)
My point is, yes go for the beta no matter what. Good luck!!

Re: do you always go for a beta?
my dr does not do them after iuis. i didnt know what one was until i saw it on here.
my RE just asks to let the office know the result of the pregnancy test and they will take it from there.
AF always came like clockwork with both IUIs.
