do most of your cravings start this way?
this may not make sense but... somehow a food item will come into mind whether because someone is talking about it or eating it or i see it somewhere and then i can't get it out of my mind. then i need it and can't stop thinkinga bout it until i have it. 
it's rare that i think, oooh i'd really love to have "X" -- something else puts it in my mind and then I realize I want it.
So now that I posted about eating an entire Qdoba burrito in one sitting in a different thread I realized that I'd really like one for dinner. NOW. Just e-mailed DH to see if he's interested in having Qdoba tonight.

First, I love how you emailed DH about this. I could imagine the subject line "important" and the email be like, I'm thinking Qdoba tonight. 
Also, yes, that is how my food cravings start.

yup, same here! I saw a kid eating grapes and got a craving, packed up my girls and went to the grocery store to get grapes LOL

Yes! Same here!! With my last pregnancy, my sister mentioned one night that she had made chocolate chip cookies. For WEEKS, I could not get this idea out of my head. I kept imagining freshly baked cookies from Pillsbury cookie dough. And I couldn't find it in the stores for some reason! It took literally about 3 weeks before I finally found the dough and made the cookies. Then about 2 days to eat the whole batch

I'm 50/50. Half my cravings come from someone else. The other half is something just pops into my head. Like I just thought how a lick of brownie batter would be heavenly right now. But, I fought the urge..so far
