Re: do i need lovenox?
I'm crashing but I have two copies of MTHFR and my high risk doctor told me I only need to take baby aspiring and if my homocysteine (sp?) enzyme levels are elevated then extra folic acid. Her opinion was that the lovenox is not needed for this type of mutation.

Re: do i need lovenox?
I have two copies of one of the MTHFR genes, and have normal homocysteine levels. I got two opinions from RE's and a hematologist and they weren't certain that this was the cause of my 2 m/c but figured it was better to be aggressive the next time around. So I did take Lovenox,Baby Aspirin and metanx starting every month in the 2ww, and through out my entire pregnancy ( I am 30 weeks). I had initially Started with Dr. B and he recommended the Lovenox and Metanx to me
I am not sure if this is what worked for me, but I am now 30 weeks. So I will continue to take BA and Lovenox for all future pregnancies.
Hope that helps!!
Goodluck!

I have the same question...I believe that we are both compound heterozygous meaning that we have one copy of each mutation. I have read that this is the second worst MTHFR to have with 2 copies of the C mutation being the worst. My Dr. did not seem concerned at all...maybe because my homocysteine levels are normal and while I take baby aspirin and Folgard, he said that neither Lovenox nor Heparin is needed in my situation, but I am confused. Some take these shots in our situation and some do not. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I am not completely sure. I know I have two copies of the same gene mutation and I am pretty sure it was the better one to have.
I think for the most part, as long as you havent had any experience with M/C in the past ...most Dr's would just start off with the Metanx and Baby Aspirin.
I'm not to sure. But for me I had experienced two losses, so th Dr's wanted to be as aggressive and proactive as possible so this would not happen again.
There are many girls who just took BA and were fine, and then there are also many of us who did take Lovenox.
P.S. If you go to SEARCH Bar, and then type in "mthfr". It will bring up a lot of posts with those who have the same thing. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much....that does help...I haven't had m/c's but I have had a few chemicals...so...I am confused as to what to do as my Dr. seems to think that the MTHFR has nothing to do with my chemicals...probably just old eggs.

That is THE million dollar question. I think that with our particular mutation in the absence of any other diagnosis...the protocol does not require Lovenox yet some women have only been able to carry to term after it's use. I'm confused and have no clue what to do WHEN I become pregnant

Re: do i need lovenox?
You may also want to post something on both pregnancy and parenting boards that says "Girls who has MTHFR". I know there are a lot of girls on those boards who had MTHFR too. That way you will get more responses.
Hope that helps!

Re: do i need lovenox?
so i read my blood work and i am compound heterozygous...with one a mutation and one c mutation.
even though my current re doesnt think its necessary for the baby aspirin , i am sticking with it for if nothing else...the other health benefits!
side note..... if you have this kind ...seems both parents had it and passed it on to us right? and if so it can cause heart/vasular issuea? if so ..might have contribulted to my parents heart disease...so interesting! and so glad we found this out now!
