I think you have the option of having the baby sit on your lap instead of getting them their own seat. But if you get them a seat I think it's the same price - not 100% sure on that though.

infants up to a 2 years old are free if you have them on your lap for domestic flights. If it is an international flight you have to pay some sort of tax for them. If the baby gets a ticketed seat then your child would pay full price. Sometimes if the flight is not full you can put them next to you.

Re: Do airlines discount?

for international flights, babies up to 2 years of age pay 10% of the fare plus taxes (the taxes are lower than for the adults)

Re: Do airlines discount?

Whenver I have flown with my children, I have purchased a seat for them and they were in their carseats during the flight. I paid a full adult fare for them.

I fly a lot with my child and every airline we have used is the same. Under two you have the option of letting them ride as a lap child and they are free. If you choose to purchase them a seat it is the same price. After 2 you must buy them a reg ticket.

As long as they are on your lap, they are free until 2. They do not give you a discount for them. Oddly, if you book seats with a senior, you do get a discount...up to a full ticket. I booked 3 tickets for my mom, gma and sister. The price was really high so on a whim I did it again before finalizing...I realized the age on "senior" was younger than my grandma, put her in as a senior instead of adult and it went from 600+ for 3 to 400!

We are flying JetBlue with DS at the end of the month and we didn't have to pay anything for him since he is going on our laps.

Re: Do airlines discount?

the difference here is domestic vs international... on most international flights children 2 yrs and under have an option to be a "lap child" or you can get a seat for them... children 2-12 usually pay 75% of the adult fare...
