DIY Egg HUnt

My parents never did egg hunts for us as a kid and I have never done one for my kids.. (3 .5 and 1 yr old).. but am thinking I would like to try one this year..

So how do you set up an egg hunt at home? Where do you put the eggs, etc?

In our house the bunny hides the eggs (and baskets) in the middle of the night and on Easter morning we hunt indoors for eggs and the baskets. DH or I sneak down and quickly hide the eggs in the morning since they're hard boiled but you could do it the night before if they're plastic.

I us easter eggs and stuff them with toys, goodies, etc. After they are sleeping I just hide them around the living room. They are 2 and 4 so I don't hide to hard. In flower pots, under the couch but able to see, on the couch, chairs by the fireplace anywhere I can. I also count how many I put out. I'm debating on putting names on them this year so they both get the same amount and it's fair.

Ive been doing it since my dd was 1. Shes now 5 and my ds is 3. I have over 100 eggs to hide none that contain food or candy tried to avoid that this year. I usually hide in only a couple of rooms. I hide under couch, chairs, pillows,on bookcase in toy baskets all over hahaha. If they dont spot it first. I will find an egg and get them started.

My dad used to get really into this. Once we found one while cleaning for thanksgiving. Yuck

Anyway he made it harder as years went on
Put in lamp instead of lightbulb
Inside small containers/canisters
Behind picture frame
On shelves/ledges
In potted plants
On nick knack shelves
On stairs between banister
Soap dish

Basically anywhere. Some obvious. Others really hidden!

DIY Egg HUnt

My DD is 3.5 and we've been doing the egg hunt since her first Easter. The "bunny" hides the eggs at night so in the morning she looks for them. I use the plastic eggs and fill them with coins, candy, stickers, goldfish, cheerios, etc... We hide them all over the first floor of the house. Her easter basket is all set and waiting for her on the table.

DS at 4 totally figured out there is no such thing as an Easter bunny. He asked why a man would dress like a bunny...

I will hide eggs hopefully in the backyard. Some obvious, others less so. Kids have their baskets & gather them. I only do plastic eggs...

We will put a coin in each this year & have them buy something...

DIY Egg HUnt

My mom used to hide the hard boiled eggs that we had dyed. She would mine in one room of the house and my brothers in a different room so we got the same amount. I prefer to do the egg hunt outside, as long as it's not raining. We did dds first last year when she was 1.5. We hid them in easy spots since she was so young. I like to use plastics eggs so I don't have to worry about any not getting found and rotting. This year we are putting little toys and surprises in the eggs for her.

My kids are 4 and 2.5. We've always used hard boiled eggs that we colored the night before. We'd put them in a bowl and in the fridge for the "Easter bunny" to hide them in the morning. I guess because this is always what my parents did, that's what we do. My husband and I usually get up early and hide the eggs in the back yard and put the kids' Easter baskets on the back deck. However, this year we will be doing the egg hunt throughout the house since we haven't had a chance to fully clean up the yard from the winter yet. I found these plastic eggs at Michaels that you can dye. So we are going to use those instead since we aren't really hard boiled egg eaters and I'll hide them in the living room and playroom for the kids. At DH's uncles house we use plastic eggs and put things in them and they find them all throughout the back yard. There are 7 cousins and they love getting together for the egg hunts.

This will be our first. We will hide plastic eggs with m&ms and some goldfish. I think we will do indoor since we will do it in the am. I also bought mickey sticker eggs at cvs (they had princess and other characters too). I'll just put them on the top of the couch and shelves so they can find them easily. For kids of different ages ive heard of doing different color eggs with different things in them depending on age. Each child can only find their own color.

ETA, we used to hide the real eggs but my kids are up too early for us to hide them in the am.

My dad would hide the eggs while we were sleeping. He hid them all over the house including our rooms. If you use real eggs, write down the hiding places and how many eggs. We couldn't find one once.
