Disney Magic Kingdom Must-Sees for a first timer

I've been to Disney many times but DH has not. We are going to Magic Kingdom this summer for a day. What would you suggest as must sees for a first timer? Do you think we should get a park hopper pass and try to do another park in the same day or is it too much?

tea cups!!!!

main street, obviously. space mountain. big thunder mountain railroad, splash mountain. all the roller coasters you possibly can.

as far as park hopper, i say no. you need a day in MK to do it all. IMO.

Re: Disney Magic Kingdom Must-Sees for a first timer

It is tough to hit more than one park in a day, although we would usually do one park during the day, and another at night, for dinner and a few rides. We have both been there many times though.

If you are spending the day at MK, stay for the fireworks show at night. I don't know if it's currently the same one as when I went two years ago, but the shows are always good.

My favorite MK ride is It's a Small World After All, although many find it annoying. Chat Icon

If you are going to do one Disney park, then MK is the one to do. We always start in Adventureland and work our way around to Tomorrowland. I love the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, everything in Fantasyland (especially the pooh ride) and Buzz Lightyear aside from all the ones mentioned.

Of course you have to take him to meet Mickey (he is a first timer after all Chat Icon )

We are going this summer too. When will you be there?

I believe we're going to the park on August 16th! What about you?

Re: Disney Magic Kingdom Must-Sees for a first timer

On my first day at WDW I hit 3 parks and saw three evening shows. The only thing I think is worth park-hopping for would be Fantasmic! at MGM.

I'm an insaniac though. When are you going? This will determine how many attractiosn you can visit.

If I had one day in MK I'd find away to go on everything, because I'm kamikazi, run over little kids and work fastpass like a shark... but my trip would look like this.

Go to Space Mountain, get fast pass. Run to the other end of the park and get on line for Splash Mountain. On the way back ride Haunted Mansion, Winnie the Pooh and Snow White. By this time 2 hours should have elapsed. Get fastpass for Big Thunder Mtn RR. Make your way back to tomorrowland. On the way, if there's time before your fastpass window, ride the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Ride Space Mountain. Ride Stich's Great Escape. If there's time, grab lunch at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. Go to BTMRR.
Grab a Fastpass for Mickey's Philharmagic. See the 3pm parade. (if you skip the parade, all of the lines are shorter during the parade, especially for the "kiddie" rides like Dumbo)
Ride Pirates of the Caribbean and see the Enchanted Tiki Room. If you want, you can do Jungle Cruise (Some people love it, I hate it). GO back to Fnatasyland and ride It's a Small World and Peter Pan, go on Philharmagic. If you missed the teacups, see them now. Also, ride Dumbo and the Carrousel. If you want, hit the Hall of Presidents. For relaxation, ride Tomorrowland Transit Authority and see CArousel of Progress and hit Stitch if you missed it. Snag a spot for the 7pm fireworks. If it's a Spectrocmagic night, stay for spectromagic.

Long story short MUST sees are

Mickey's Philharmagic
Haunted Mansion
The mountains: Splash, Space and Big Thunder (in that order of importance)
Pirates of the Caribbean
The classic boardwalk rides: Dumbo, Teacups, Carrousell (all long lines, no fastpass and lots of children)
Snow White's Scary Adventures
Winnie the Pooh
It's a Small World
Peter Pan (though I am not personally a fan of this ride)
Stich (I've never been, but it's new)
BUzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin (VERY fun!)
The Enchanted Tiki Room is a classic, but I think it's boring.
Most people think Carousel of Progress and TTA are boring, but I love them.

Everything else is just gravy. I think The first 3 things on the list are worth the admission all by themselves

Re: Disney Magic Kingdom Must-Sees for a first timer

I can't remember the names of any of them now, but I loved all of the 3D shows - the mickey one in the MK, the muppet one in MGM and honey I shrunk the audience in Epcot.

I always love the teacups, I could go on them over and over. I also really like It's a Small World, Pirates of the Carribean, the Haunted Mansion and Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Skip the Carousel of Progress. We went in because there was no line and DH still teases me about it Chat Icon

fast pass is free with admission. go to the kiosk at the ride, say space mountain, but your ticket in and it will spit out a ticket with a time on it. not all rides have it.
