Disney Feb 2017
Is this the time to start booking? Anyone else going? We want a value resort I guess on the theme park unless someone suggests otherwise. For 5 people.
Kids are 11 and 13 so we think we will be at theme parks each day, maybe 5 days- 7 if we can afford it.
Where to begin research?

For 5 people, I would suggest looking at Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans Riverside (both are moderate). Most value rooms only accommodate 4 people, so you'd probably have to book 2 rooms.

I will look into those.
Are they 2 adjoining rooms or a suite? A kitchenette would be nice. Do they have these?

you might want to look into Art of Animation. its a "value" resort- but they have family suites there. they have 2 bathrooms, a queen size bed, a pull out couch, plus another murphy bed type bed for kids up to about age 12 or so. i think they also have a little kitchenette area.
also- like somebody else said, port orleans riverside or carribean beach have 2 beds, plus a murphy bed so they would sleep 5 people. i don't think the have kitchenettes though.
and yes Garden grocer is a company that you can order food from ant they deliver to wherever you decide to stay. you can also order stuff from Amazon Pantry, too and have it shipped to the resort.

I agree with the PP who said look into offsite options.
Your kids are older so you don't have to worry about things like strollers, them falling asleep, carrying them etc. which are annoying to deal with when staying offsite with young kids.
Plus I believe suites at AOA are expensive.
We usually go for Feb break and we book over the summer. I stalk certain airline's websites to see when they will release fares for those dates. Even for popular dates there are a few cheaper seats available and if you're quick you can do okay. I got a reasonable deal (for that week!) on Jetblue by booking literally 5 minutes after the fares were released. I remember it was in July but this was a few years ago.
This link shows the dates both room and package rates have historically been released. You can still book before that, but you won't know the price.
I recommend NOT booking a package because it the tickets are much cheaper when booked separately through a discounter like undercovertourist, esp. for 5 people.

yes you can have groceries sent to your room but like milk cereal muffins etc there may be a microwave in the rooms for heating stuff up but not a full kitchen

Bay Lake has kitchens and can accommodate that many people. It is a DVC resort but you can look into renting DVC points.
ETA: I didn't see you said Value. Bay Lake is deluxe. But possibly cheaper than two rooms? I'd look into it.

If you have 5 people and budget is key, I would look into renting someone's offsite timeshare. You can get a 1 or 2 bedroom with a full kitchen for much cheaper than anything like that would cost at Disney.
We used our in law's RCI points last year. We stayed at the Wyndham Cypress Palms, which wasn't our first choice but it was clean and spacious and fine for our purposes - we are just there for the parks. Granted, they just gave it to us, but I know people do sell their week for relatively cheap especially compared to Disney's prices.
You would have to add in the price of a rental car and parking at the parks and, if applicable, your hotel.
If you are just there for the parks you can also look into 2 value rooms at Pop Century which gets good reviews. You won't get a kitchen but Disney is very good with food allergies so you should be fine to eat in the parks. All rooms have a fridge and (I believe) a microwave for things like cold cereal or oatmeal for a quick breakfast. Personally, I don't care to cook on vacation anyway but you might feel differently.

I'd def check! We are able to get a car pretty in expensively & it opens up dinner options that often cost much less (Orlando is not very expensive). Most include free breakfast. I've stayed at hotels that were very nice that are now around $100 a night. Resorts run around $150 & are much nicer!!! May be more options with 5 people. With older kids, personally, I'd include Universal as part of the trip.
We never stay st Disney, even with young kids. We get great resorts for much less than a Disney resort & we just tolerate the inconvenience of driving (it's not that bad in my opinion).

For our family of 5 we've stayed in a suite at Art of Animation and this year we tried Caribbean Beach. Caribbean Beach is more affordable.
