disney dinning plan
regular or delux???
its about a 700-800$$ difference in price.
we will be staying in a villa that has a kitchen but we will not have car to be able to go food shopping.
kids would be 1 and 3 at time of travel.
i think the delux is too much and would like to have breakfast in our room, dh wants the delux so we never have to cook while on vacation

Just went in September and was on the deluxe plan. It is ALOT of food. We did usually 2-3 sit down meals a day (which all took 2+ hours - lots of time away from the parks - but it was actually good downtime for the kids) and didn't use a lot of snacks. We also stayed in a villa - only made quick breakfasts for the kids on the way out the door. We also didn't rent a car but we did place an order w/ garden grocer before we went (highly recommend). The deluxe is a LOT of food. You will be eating most of the trip to get your money's worth. If you think you want to do a lot of 2 TS credit places (cinderallas castle, Jiko, California grill) then it might be worth it -but generally unless you want to do say a character meal for breakfast or lunch and a sit down dinner it isn't really worth it.
We always have breakfast in the room and use the counter service meal for lunch and table service for dinner. We also make out great on the regular plan which is still a lot of food.
BTW if you have a kitchen - even if you don't want to cook - you can easily do a decent breakfast every morning. There is gardengrocer.com or wegoshop.com which are like peapod services. They will deliver to bell services if you are not there and bell services will keep your perishables cold until you return. Many people use those services.
BTW the rule with the 1 year old - is that they are free for park tickets AND food depending on where you eat (b.c you can't add them to the dining plan unless you list them as a 3 year old and pay for a park ticket for them). They eat free at a sit down if they eat OFF your plate (if you order them a children's meal you will have to pay for it. They eat free at buffets and family style table service places (i.e. chef mickey's, crystal palace etc). So when we went to Ohana it was family style so DD got a plate (in fact they made her grilled cheese since she was 15 months) and we weren't charged for the meal or the drink b.c it was a family style restaurant. But if you go to a sit down restaurant with a menu such as coral reef you will pay if they don't eat off your plate.

We are going in December and our on the regular dining plan.
DD,who is just 2, is free and can eat off our plates or order off the kids menu.
I think we did the deluxe when we went in 2006 - it was the plan with the app., entree and dessert and it was way too much.
I think we have one quick and one sit down meal on this plan and with a 2 year old I think it's ideal.

No problem!! Make sure you look into it though b.c I do know some people were told that by Cast members on the phone or my TA's who didn't know and were not happy when they went and were charged.
We went last year when DD was 15 months that was how it worked at that time and from my research it hasn't changed (we are going with 2 under 3 in May)- we were told and from what I have read and friends and our experience- the rule was if they eat off your plate at a sit down where there is a menu (ie coral reef, les chefs de france etc) they are free - if you order off of the children's menu they charged you for the meal. With places like Ohana, garden grill etc that are served family style they don't charge and will bring them a plate (they made DD a grilled cheese for free) places like chef mickey's (buffets) they eat free (although occasionally a server is mistaken and does try to charge). Counter service if you order for them they will charge you for the meal.

Walt Disney World Resort Restaurants consider a child to be ages 3-9. Most restaurants have a separate children's menu with selections geared to children's tastes. Most children's meals are priced under $8, although some restaurants may have higher priced offerings.
At table service restaurants, there is no charge for children under 3 who share from an adult's plate. However, if you order from a menu for a children under 3, you will be charged the menu price.
At buffet and "all-you-care-to-eat" restaurants, there is also no charge for children under 3 who share from an adult's plate. However, if you order from a separate children's or ala carte menu for a child under 3 (rather than eating from the buffet or all-you-care-to-eat offerings), you will be charged the price reflected on the menu.
At counter service restaurants, you will be charged the menu price if you order a meal for a child under 3.
NOTE: When making your Advance Reservations, be sure to include all children in your count of members of your party, even if they will be seated in a highchair.

we were just there in September. i have 2 kids, a 6 year old and a 23 months old.
we had the dining plan. my son's meals came off the dining plan.
my DD was able to eat anything she wanted at the buffets, they do not charge under 3.. but at sit down restuarants we paid for her kids meal out of pocket. they do charge for the meals ordered off the menu.
for the 7 nights of meals we had, i think we paid 3 or 4 nights, because we didn't do buffets those nights. we paid for the extra kids meal at Sci Fi dine-in, Le Cellier, Rose and Crown... i forget where else. places like Biergarten, 1900 park fare, and Boma she was free because its a buffet set up.

The best use of the deluxe plan, in my opinion, is for those who plan on making reservations at those venues that require 2 table-service meals per seating. These would be Disney's signature restaurants, character meals at Cinderella's Royal Table, and dinner shows like the Spirit of Aloha Luau, Hoop Dee Doo Review, etc.
If that is not the plan, then the "Plus Dining" option is probably your best value.

We went in May and did the dining plus. That worked well for us. Also it was definately a ton of food. We did the Princess dinner over at Epcot with that plan.
