Disney Dining Reservation Change
FYI - beginning 10/31 all sit down restaurants (for lunch and dinner) will require a credit card deposit. No shows will be charged $10 per person. In order not to be charged, you must cancel your reservation by 11:59 pm the day before.

Re: Disney Dining Reservation Change
Not liking this new policy. I understand the character meals and very popular places but the others not as much. This is hard on families who need some flexibility. I don't think it will help with walkups.
Last trip we always cancelled and are never a no show but...with young kids it can be hard to cancel the night before. Plans change, kids get cranky etc. Sometimes the kids would say no- we want to do something else that night so we would cancel in the morning or by lunch. I understand canceling to accommodate others but maybe a 2 or 3 hour window for less popular places. We had the dining plan on other trips. It was stressful one or two nights the kids didn't want to go but since we had the plan we were forced to. It is hard to know the night before sometimes.

Re: Disney Dining Reservation Change
I think it's a good plan. I get that things can change at the last minute, but I think there are families who make multiple reservations for each meal and that's not really fair to other families.

Re: Disney Dining Reservation Change
I definitely think it will help out with being able to get dining reservations though. I know lots of people who "double dip" dining reservations.
I do miss the days of not having to plan every second of a Disney vacation though!

Disney Dining Reservation Change
I think it's a good thing. It will definitely free up more dining times for people who actually want them. Disney has always been great about waiving the fee if you cancel the same day, as long as you actually cancel. We have had several occasions where we were not feeling up to traveling to one resort or another or what have you and Disney waived the fee as long as we let them know a few hours before the reservation so they could use the table for walk ups or last minute reservations.

See friends have the opposite. They cancelled the morning of because their kids were too tired or the weather was supposed to be bad so the decided not to do a park night but were charged. The only time I have heard that it was waived was for a sick child.
I don't think there was too much double dipping bc for quite a while you couldn't make 2 adrs at the same mealtime same day (ie 2 lunches or 2 dinners).
See I never have problems with the lesser places and getting adrs I had ptoblems with places like ohana, BOG etc. But those were already credit guarantee places.

There has still been plenty of double dipping, there are ways around it and people are well aware of them and abuse the system. It is beyond frustrating to see.
Disney has always been great with needing to make changes, I'm sorry your friend didn't have the same experience. :(

It as several not just one friend. I have also seen on disboards they were enforcing the cancellation policy.
I don't think it will stop the double dippers if they do it still they will keep doing it. The places added now for the mostpart except pesk season are fairly easy to get adrs fornow double dippers or not. What would be nice is if they could figure out something for the popular (already on the guarantee policy) where if you miss the 180 mark you can forget going. Our past couple of trips were Mid May and end of September. We go on level 5 days where crowds aren't bad. The only place we could not get was BOG because we booked after the 180 window. But we got everything else with zero problems. You are going to get people who book multiple dining pretty much no matter what they do when you ask people to book 180 days out. Especially when people complain they have no idea what park or what day that far in advance. For us planners it good but the average person it is too overwhelming. People overbook, make multiple changes now because they don't know what they want so a 24 hour cancellation won't change that. Maybe a shorter booking window or maybe a $5 pp hold returned as long as you cancel might cut back on overbooking or booking unless you really want it.
