Disney cruise from FL
If you went on a Disney Cruise that left from Port Canaveral, did you leave the morning of or did you go a day early? If you went the day before where did you stay and how did you arrange transportation. I'm not sure what to do now and airfare is so expensive for August.

Disney cruise from FL
I would fly in the day before.
We left out of Miami and flew in the day of. We had no issues but, it was a really long day so I feel we didn't get to enjoy the first day to the fullest.

we've done 2 DCL cruises out of FL one out of port canaveral, one out of Miami. for the first one, we flew in the day before, and stayed at one of the disney resorts. you can get the magical express from the airport to the resort, and then the next morning we did the DCL cruise bus from our resort to our port ( that costs extra, but was really easy!) the second one, we were visiting my parents in okeechobee, FL for a couple days before, so we just headed to Port Miami from there early the morning of the cruise. we're going on another DCL cruise in november, out of port canaveral, and we're planning on flying in the day before. i don't want to worry about missing the ship if flights are delayed or whatever...

I would fly in the night before for sure. If your plane gets delayed the morning of, you could miss your cruise. And it happens all the time!
We usually rent a car and either park it at the port, or do a one way rental and the rental company shuttles you to the port. You can also stay near Orlando airport, or at the Hyatt IN the airport....then catch the shuttle back to the airport (if staying off site) and hop on the Disney transportation ($35 per person each way).

We just did this a couple weeks ago. We flew into Orlando the day before and had a car service (Happy Limo) take us to our hotel. We stayed at the Radisson Resort near the Port. Their pool was amazing! Then the next day we took the hotel shuttle to the ship. I think the shuttle was $6 per adult (they didn't charge us for our 5 y/o DD).
ETA: we took the Disney shuttle back to the airport. No one even asked us our names or anything to check that we paid for the shuttle when we got on. Not sure how they keep track of that, but it would have been so easy for someone to hop on without paying.

They are definitely supposed to scan your key card when you board the bus!

Lol not us. We only got scanned getting off the ship and then were just directed the rest of the way to our bus.

Definitely not the norm...so I wouldn't count on not making a reservation and being able to board and get back to the airport next time

Re: Disney cruise from FL
My parents are taking us, and they do a Disney cruise just about every year. They always fly down the same day, and that's the way they booked air for us all for this trip. If it was up to me though, I'd go down the night before. lol I'd probably just stay at the hotel in the Orlando airport - less schlepping! My parents do the same day because they like that you don't see your bags from JFK until they are in your cruise cabin.

That's what we are leaning towards. Just going straight through and use Disney transportation.

Is there a charge for Disney transportation to an on-site hotel from the Orlando airport?

The Magical Exprss is complementary for the vast majority of Disney resorts. I think just the swan and dolphin are not included, as they are not Disney-owned.

Re: Disney cruise from FL
I highly recommend flying down the day before.
Many of my clients stay right at the airport the night before and take Disney transportation to the port in the morning.
