Disney (area) hotels

I just booked my flights and half marathon registration for the Star Wars half in April. Now I need to start looking at hotels. I will be calling Disney as we get a discount due to the race but I also wanted to look into hotels close by. We won't be doing Disney the entire 5 days so I want something with a good pool etc.

We have stayed at Orange Lake which is an option but wa a thinking maybe closer. We might have a car the entire time but definitely for a few days cause my parents are meeting us there.

We stayed at the Waldorf when I did the princess half last February. I definitely recommend it for Disney races. It is connected to the Hilton, which had buses to and from the race, and a sendoff breakfast the morning of (at 3 am!!). It was very cute. They also had special marathon rates -it was very reasonable.

I hear the Four Seasons Orlando has an amazing pool. If I ever get forced to do Disney I will be staying there.

I like the Universal hotels (Hard Rock, Portofino).
Love the JW Marriott pool
Even have stayed at awesome budget places for under $100 a night.

I like the Hilton/Waldorf Bonnet creek. I think the pool is closer to the Hilton side. I'm not really a pool person. I didn't think the pool was huge, but it has a lazy river.
It's close to Disney. We had a car, so I don't know if the shuttles are convenient.

I'd probably choose the Disney Hotel with a good discount even if it's slightly more than off site. You do get some benefits staying on site, it's just the usual prices aren't worth it to me.

I was also going to recommend the Four Seasons. Pricey but worth it, especially if you don't plan to spend all your time at the parks. Nicest pool ever.

There are many resorts with good pools that are much cheaper though. I have heard good things about JW Marriott and Reunion from friends.

For the princess half last February I stayed at the Four Seasons, but I also looked at the Waldorf. The Waldorf actually had a really good deal for race goers and provided transportation to and from the marathon.
