Disability Fraud

Not sure if anyone knows this but I heard that an investigator will only follow around someone claiming they are disabled if they are working a job.
If you are not working and collecting disability and worker's comp and still doing the things you claim you can't do, can't you get in trouble?

Disability Fraud

I dont know if they do it for every single case of disability. But i think they do it for sure when the company is being sued. My Uncle said it happened to him. I assume youd get in trouble, not sure what kind of trouble tho.

Re: Disability Fraud

No they follow you everywhere. My grandpa fell out of a truck on a job site and had to have multipl back surgeries. He was in constant pain and was never able to work. They would sit outside of his house and take photos. They took a photo of him using a shovel to throw away a dead mouse. They said if he could use a shovel he should go back to work. Once his case was settled they stopped showing up but that was over 4 years. My neighbor was a NYPD officer and got hurt on the job they were relentless. I called the cops many times because they would sit in front of my house all day.

They are trying to get out of paying. If they see you doing something you really shouldn't be doing if you claim you can't work they will bring it up in court and they could revoke your disability benefits.

Disability Fraud

We have hired investigators all the time. A company can do it for each and every case (which gets too expensive) or for ones they feel they are getting screwed on.

I will tell you we do not look to get out of paying.....we look to find the ones cheating the system. Those are the ones that are causing insurance premiums to go up etc and ruin it for the ones that are being truthful. We followed a guy to FL and saw him play and win a golf tourney when we said he could barely get around. We have a pic of him holding a big check up for the photo op after he won the tourney.

Re: Disability Fraud

Thanks everyone. My dh was told by someone (the person was actually following someone at the time) that they only follow you around if you are working (I am assuming off the books).

Re: Disability Fraud

They follow every disability claim regardless of having a job or not. If you sue they will follow you more though. Workers comp claims are also followed.

Thanks. I know someone who I truly think needs to be followed and figured they weren't as they are not going out and working. They might just be.

I will respectfully say that maybe the company you work for does not but my experience tells otherwise. Iwouldnt wish the process on a dog.

some cases have more thorough vetting than other cases, but I think it is remiss to say that cases are not investigated.

Cases are investigated but not everyone is followed. That is a big difference.

This.

Investigators will also check your social media accounts.

Re: Disability Fraud

one of my neighbors claimed disability. We found someone parked at end of street all the time. Someone looked into it, and it was an investigator. We think they were following that neighbor to the gym early every morning.

Yes, if you are claiming disability, don't be posting on social media that you at Hershey Park, etc.

This person does have their social media closed from the public but I would think anyone could get in if they know someone who knows someone and are able to see the things they do while they claim the dr. says they are disabled in a certain body part that they are able to use by pictures they put up.
