Dinner troubles (not about being picky for once)

I need some ideas bc dinnertime with my 2.5 year old is making me nuts lately. She takes 8 years to eat the little bit she eats. She is a big chatterbox so she just goes on and on talking and being silly rather than eating. She also is not good with utensils still so that either slows her down or she'll eat with her hands and then the mess makes me nuts. Any suggestions for getting her to eat more quickly, fool around less, and use a fork or spoon?

Hopefully it's just a phase. DS is the same age and does the same thing. If I don't remind him to take a bite he'll just sit there.
I find myself feeding him at times bc I just don't have the patience for him.

I think it's def the age. My DD does the same thing. I actually dread eating out because I know we're going to be there forrrrrever. This too shall pass.

Honestly you just have to roll with it. Unless you are out I'd let her sit there til she eats.

I feel a little better knowing it's normal. I don't know if she's gotten worse or I just don't as much patience at the moment. I just don't have an hour to sit with her right now with a newborn to take care of too. I need a few more hours in the day!

The mess you just have to deal with. Keep letting her practice, that part will get better.

If my DS is being too chatty or slow I tell him I have to go throw laundry in or something and leave him alone. He usually eats much better when he's by himself.
