Re: Dinner Party
Ham and Roast beef! Mmm! You have a ton of stuff to choose from!
I'd probably go with a regular mashed potato (and gravy made with the roast beef drippings) and either a sweet potato casserole - or plain whipped sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes LOOOVE ham - especially if you are doing a sweet glaze that guests can drizzle over them.
I'd definitely do a giant salad with whatever your house dressing is.. or you can leave it naked and offer different dressings on the side.
For the warm greens.. I think I'd go with a nice balsamic green bean dish - or roasted Brussel sprouts (maybe because they are SO on my mind right now!).
If you don't do sweet potatoes, you can do glazed carrots for that sweet/salty flavor. If you do sweet potatoes, then I'd skip carrots and offer up a roasted vegetable medley.
I'd also have a basket of bread.. probably buttery biscuits.. or maybe a simple homemade focaccia.
For appetizers.. I'd probably do shrimp cocktail, baby spinach quiche and a simple crudite of vegetables... you are offering a lot of meat for supper so I'd avoid too much before the meal.
Dessert in the autumn.. pumpkin pie, spice cake and an arrangement of cookies and brownies.
