Dinner for Epcot...

We want to add a reservation for dinner, while at Epcot.

We have the Akersus for Lunch.

Should we do Marrakesh or another restaurant for dinner?
Or
Try & change Akersus for dinner, & do a quick lunch?

TIA!!!!

Re: Dinner for Epcot...

Lunch v. dinner at Akershus doesn't make much difference in terms of food. Since it's for your kids, just do it when they are freshest.

You almost can't go wrong with dinner at EPCOT. Every time I think of a place I want to suggest, I think of another one I like better.

You even have the option to walk to Beaches and Cream.

I love both Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining. I may be in the minority but I love San Angel anything. Tutto Italia is very good, but I know I can always get good italian).

Nine Dragons is meh. I haven't eaten at either of the French restaurants.

I think Marrakesh is a great choice actually because it's the experience you're probably east likely to be able to replicate at home.

Le Chefs (France) is really good. It's actually one of our favorite lunch places.

If you want the kids to run around, I'd say Biergarten in Germany.

I've just heard from 2 people who recently came back that they loved les Chefs.

In that case I'd try to see if there is a time available when you can see Remy and then move Akershus to dinner.

Re: Dinner for Epcot...

We did dinner at Akershus and really enjoyed it. I don't know I would look at the lunch vs dinner menus I hear the dinner appeals to some more than lunch and vice versa.

Eh not a huge fan in terms of food of coral reef. Great atmosphere but the food is usually better at Red Lobster than the meals we had there. Plus we always had long waits to be sat even with ADRs. I do think it can be fun with kids if they like to eat and watch fish swim around.

Marrakesh is fun - they have music and a belly dancer that pulled the kids up to dance with her. Food was not bad - if you aren't adventurous try the fillet Shish kabob and coucous. I have eaten there a couple of times. Usually a bit easier to get an ADR there.

We had a decent meal at Chefs de France. It has an okay atmosphere more adult than for the kids but the food was pretty good.

The habaci place is fun - but I read that they have cut back a lot on the food - so you just get the entree no soup or salad as you get in the local places - but if that doesn't bother you - it is a fun experience watching them cook at the table.

Biergarten - not usually a fan of buffets - but the girls LOVED this place. You do sit at large tables with others - but they have a band and they had the kids all up on the dance floor doing things like the chicken dance and other things. It was a lot of fun.

My family always has a good meal (and the sangria and margaritas are good too) at San Angel Inn. I know it gets mixed reviews but I had one of the best fillet's there than at most of the other places. I like the atmosphere and it is fun if you can snag a table by the window you can watch the boats from the ride float by the restaurant. The girls loved waving at the people going by - who were all waving back.

There is a pizza place (via Napoli) that would be good with kids I would expect. It opened I think a month after our last trip.

2 credit places - DH and I had a very good meal at bistro de paris - but it is a bit more formal - not sure I would take the kids there but they DO have a kids menu.

DH and I gave le Cellier a try twice in the past and after 45-50 min waits with our ADRs for a table we found the food to be about the same as Outback. So I don't normally recommend it. They couldn't get our steaks cooked right and I didn't think the quality was that great - but maybe they improved it when they made it 2 TS credits.

I hear mixed things about the food - but what about Garden Grill?

I think I would prefer CS for lunch at EPCOT and Akershus for dinner - but that is just my personal preference. I like having a sit down dinner - and the flexibility of CS for lunch so we can eat whenever we are ready. When we tour we do so until lunch time or just after - then return to the hotel and come back around dinner time - to eat then hit a few rides. This way we never feel like we are missing out on attractions to eat - because we return to the parks around 4-5 and eat between 5 and 6 usually - so we have the evening to tour.

Thank you Lillykat....great review.

What is CS though.

We like the idea of a sit down dinner too, so that's why I'm a little concerned about one days schedule with reservations.

Ooops - Chat Icon Chat Icon counter service (CS) and TS - table service. I can't get used to calling counter service QS (quick service).

You know our next trip I'm thinking we need to totally reevaluate our strategy. It worked perfectly for that age - but I'm not sure it is best for our next trip. I don't know I go back and forth. My older DD isn't good with lines at all - she gets too jumpy so I need to optimize our plans to use FP and go to EMH mornings and get on as much as we can when she is not tired and the lines are short. She LOVES shows now (wouldn't have sat for them in the past) so except for some short ones like Country bears, tiki birds and the 4D movies we skipped a lot - but she just went to Mary Poppins and LOVED it and didn't move at all other than to rock to some of the songs. So I know we will do more shows etc. I am wondering if we should only do maybe 3 or 4 sit downs but then we have several we will want to do. So I'm having a hard time - luckily we have a year to figure it all out. I know we will 100% want to hit Akershus and Be our Guest - but not sure what from there. I like the sit downs only because you know you will get about 45-60 mins of air conditioning and down time. With CS I feel like you are searching for tables, everyone eats fast and it is go go go.

See we found out that it worked perfectly or it was a disaster. Either they are rested (from the afternoon break) and enjoyed the meal or they were tired and cranky. So it can go either way - if they still nap and get interrupted or it is very hot and makes them more cranky or whatever happens.

Re: Dinner for Epcot...

We just got back from a week in Myrtle beach & some nights weren't finishing dinner until 10pm, & sometimes my 23mo only had quick naps where she could. And they were still fine...of course we poured them into bed almost every night though Chat Icon
But it was a good practice to see what they can handle.

I've eaten at all of them! If your preference is Italian definitely consider Via Napoli. Tokyo Dining is also fantastic and my DS food was served in a bullet train. La Hacienda is also excellent, as is Le Cellier. What is your cordite ethnic food?

The only restaurants I would not recommend are The Norway and German restaurants. They were just not to our taste/liking.

Have a great trip!! Chat Icon

Re: Dinner for Epcot...

I'm totally open to the overall best experiences. We want a mix of good food & fun atmosphere.

My girls are great in restaurants & waits. They are even pretty adventurous too (humus, chickpeas, etc). My hubby & I are adventurous too.

While there, my Hubby & I are celebrating our 6yr wedding anniversary & my DD 2nd birthday too. So I might look into something special for that too.

If you are looking for a nice meal to celebrate and don't mind 2TS credits. I would check out jiko at AKL, Bistro de Paris at EPCOT, or California Grill at the Contemporary. Jiko was fun, the food was excellent last time we went there and you could enjoy exploring the AKL while you are there.

I have to say the food wasn't top at either of those two but they are good for entertainment for the kids. The only reason to go to Norway is for the princesses. I never looked there before having 2 girls. But then I don't think many of the restaurants havegreat food it is an amusement park food. Except for some of the 2ts places most are more along the lines of chain restaurant quality. Chat Icon But then I keep my expectations low so that I am not disappointed and can be surprised when I have a great meal.

Can you tell me more about La Hacienda? The reviews I see there are horrible and friends did not like it. But the menu looked interesting as an alternative to San Angel Inn

Re: Dinner for Epcot...

I think when people don't like San Angel Inn and Hacienda, a lot of the time it's because they went in expecting Tex Mex. This is more authentic food.

Re: Dinner for Epcot...

Beaches and Cream is an old fashioned burger/ie cream shop at Beach Club resort (accesible out the back entrance of EPCOT). It has classic burgers and awesome shakes and ice cream sundaesincluding the famous kitchen sink!
