Dining Room Table + Kids
Moving into a house with a dining area! Since there is no seating in the kitchen, this is where we will eat meals, do homework, etc. I think the dark wood sets are very nice but salesperson at R&F said set was "too nice for every day use." So now I'm curious what families with young children do.
Keep table covered?
Show wood, use placemats?
Other options??

I have seen a thick clear plastic see-thru cover on some tables..and have thought of using one myself.

My dad special ordered a piece of plexiglass to fit my kitchen table. It's great. It wipes away all mess and keeps things neat. I don't know the name of the company he used but if you want me to ask I can.

We have a real wood "dining room" set in our kitchen (we don't have a dining room). We have a piece of glass on top. It was custom made for the table and makes clean up a breeze. Once a month or so, we take the glass up and clean underneath.

WE use our dining area for everything since we don't have an eat in kitchen. I make sure I have the table pad on at all times. For every day use, I use a vinyl or washable tablecloth and for special occasions, I use a cloth one.

If you really want that table you can get padded table covers to prevent scratches - then you could use table clothes as well. But you run the risk of damaging your chairs as children might spill on the seats or the chairs could get scratched. Unless you want to get seat protectors too.
For now I would go with something maybe a little more family friendly and then you can always get that nicer set when the children are older and there will be less spills, etc.

Glass top!!!!! Our kids and everyday living trashed our last dinning room table top.
I got glass made for our new one and it looks great, is easy to clean and keeps the table top safe.
