can anyone think of any really good, but different dishes that I can make for my sons christening...our family has party after party, and I wanted to try to be a little different!

That's tough.
Maybe make a different style of food. (i.e. instead of doing typical Italian pasta and meat dishes, go Mexican/Spanish).
Make your own taco bar. Chicken & Rice. Beans. Grilled skirt steak. Some kind of potato.
I'm not a baker but I always admire the fun cakes some of the girls on here do.

LOVE that idea, too!!
I would do regular AND sweet potatoes with all the toppings... Cheese, Bacon, Broccoli, Sour Cream, Chives, etc.
We had a mashed potato bar at our wedding and everyone still raves about it... nearly 3 years later!

Cakes in ice cream cones are yum! They are easy to do and come out cute-yoiu just pour the cake batter into the cones and bake as would a cake.
