Did you convert your crib to a toddler bed?

And if so did you purchase the conversion kit sold with the crib or just purchase a bed rail. I have a sleigh crib that I am considering converting to a toddler bed for DS but the conversion kit is $100 whereas a bed rail is a little less - $75. Do you think they work the same?

DS's conversion kit didn't come with a bed rail, and he doesn't use one. I was going to buy one, but he sleeps just fine without it.

The conversion kit that we bought with the crib, that is for when we make it into a full bed.

We bought the conversion kit that came with our crib, which included the bed rail. We bought it all when we originally purchased the crib.

Our crib came with the conversion rail
We just changed his bed over last weekend


We are hoping to move soon so will probably get him a new bed since we want to give him a sibling soon

Thanks everyone so my dilemma is as follows:

1) Do I buy the conversion kit for the crib or a regular bed rail - $75-$100

2) Do I buy a toddler bed and just use his crib mattress - I have seen some beds for between $65 and $115

3) Do I just spring for a twin bed?

DS is 21 months, starts off the night in his crib but ends up in bed with us every night. I am pregnant and want to start weaning him out of our bed before #3 arrives in december - small steps!

What would you do?

We coverted Ann's crib to a toddler bed (really just removed the front section). She'd been fine, fell out a few times (very few!) onto a giant body pillow.

She was in it for about a month maybe (??) and I just bought a regular toddler bed (a) because it has small rails and (b) the converted crib looked like such a big piece of furniture in her small room.

Ann is 22 months ....


ETA: The bed I got at BRU with the 20% coupon for under $80. I think the rail for the crib was over $100.
